Our 20th anniversary is on December 12 and we are looking for a great steak dinner at a nice place. Dont mind paying a little more for great service and a romantic atmosphere, as long as the food is outstanding! Any suggestions?

Capital something..downtown Raleigh..never been, but I heard it was good. Also, ask the folks on the city-data forum, they could help too!

I personally like checking out www.citysearch11.com for their top picks. :)

I don't think you'll find "romantic atmosphere" at a steakhouse but that's just my opinion. I've said this before, but: If you want an incredible meal and a great experience on a special occasion check out St. Jacques in Raleigh. http://www.saintjacquesfrenchcuisine.com/index.html

    death by meat (rio churrascaria)

there is one in mcgregor village in cary and one off of strickland and six forks in raleigh - both are excellent.

they have an amazing bar with all the cheeses, veggies, gourmet salad type things but the real deal is the skewers of meat that they bring around and serve you. There must have been 15 different types of meats -- google the restaurant and you can find more specifics. I think the meal was $25 per person plus drinks, etc. Well worth the money, but don't make plans for afterward because you will need a nap....

((which is why we call the place 'death by meat'))

I highly recommend Simpson's Beef and Seafood on Creedmoor Road just north of Crabtree Mall (http://www.simpsonsrestaurant.com/). The food and service have always been incredible, including very good steaks. The restaurant is very romantic - if you mention your anniversary when you make a reservation, there will be a rose at your table. There is usually live music on the weekends. The owner is almost always in the restaurant and involved in making sure everything is perfect.

My wife and I have been numerous times for special occasions, and always been pleased. The prices are not too high for what you get, and certainly more reasonable that Angus Barn or Ruth's Chris.

Having said all that, I think it's time to go there again.

42nd Street Oyster Bar in Raleigh. I don't eat seafood, but always get the filet mignon when I go and it's awesome! It is my favorite restaurant in the whole state! I do believe they have a band on the weekends also.

We decided to wait until tonite to celebrate. We are going to Rio Churrascaria. I am excited about trying something new and different! I will let you all know how it was. We are always looking for new experiences. You all had some great suggestions and we plan on trying a few others, on a different night, of course! Hubby got me a beautiful anniversary ring, which I was totally surprised, I had no idea he was spending so much. Anniversary gifts usually suffer being so close to Christmas and all. On our anniversary we went to a great little pizza place we love in Wilson and had pizza (I LOVE pizza!!) and shared a philly cheese steak. Will let you all know how things go tonight.
