I always enjoyed the greek salad at the Brass Bell before they closed. Who has a good greek salad around 40/42 area without driving into Garner or Raleigh?
Never been there, but a girl I work with loves the greek place behind Hardee's in Clayton. I think its called Greeko's?
I'd second Greeko's, its across from Walmart on 70 in Clayton. Behind the Hardees and down a few doors from Kobe Japanese restaurant. They have a great fresh "authentic greek" salad, thats what its called on the menu. Its cucumber, tomato, olives, red onion, feta cheese and some sort of oil based vinaigrette that is out of this world when it mixes with the feta cheese (there is no lettuce in this salad). You can also opt to add their grilled marinated chicken to it (I always add the chicken) for an additional 1.50 or 2.00 (depending which size salad you order). The large is enough for 2 if you were sharing it with a gyro or something else. They also have great hummus and grilled pita bread!
I believe American Hero, in the old Winn Dixie Plaza (by McDonalds) in Clayton has a Greek Salad. I love American Hero!
You can also have them add gyro meat to the salad as well. Which btw...I think is what I'll get for lunch today. Craig
anyo one ever heard of Greek saganaki or hawever you spell it. It is a tomato and Cheese dish that is out of this world! Can I get that there?
There is a difference between a greek salad and the authentic greek salad that ar both on the menu at Greekos'. And based on the description on the menu itself I wouldn't eat the greek salad, but the authentic greek salad is da bomb. Craig
i third greekos in clayton. the owner was born/raised in greece. very good food. family run eateries are so much better than chains. and from what i have found out the greekos in clayton is owned by someone different than the one in smithfield by the outlet malls.
The owner is also from the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts more recently.. he's not right off the boat from Greece. None the less, the food is good.
Based on this thread, I tried Greeko's tonight. Had the Greek salad, was good, but I was especially impressed with the menu. Haven't seen some of those dishes since leaving Michigan. (Detroit has a small Greektown with great restaurants, if you like Greek food.) So a qualified thumbs-up for now. But will definitely go back when I am really hungry.
I was still working downtown, 2 blocks from Greektown and one casino, for a short time after it opened. (Can't recall the name.) Many of my co-workers would go gambling over their lunchbreaks. The city sure needs the money, as the tax base is next to nothing. Were you there for the big political fight to make parts of Detroit into Indian Reservations, so that the gambling would be legal?
I didn't think a Greek salad would be cheating on your diet. But I was not aware that an authentic Greek salad had no lettuce in it. I have been making my own version at home sometimes based on the recipe in the South Beach Diet book and I really like it. I guess I've never had an authentic Greek salad. Why do you say it would be cheating?
