any one put or had put on gutter guard type product? Who do you recomend etc? Do they work? I have gutters, but need to keep oak leaves and pine needles out.

DH is working his way around our house with them. We got them at Lowes. So far, so good. Our gutters stayed full of organic crap before we put them on the front. Will do the back when it warms up again. It's pretty far up there, LOL.

No gutter guard will protect you from the fine matter which comes from trees in the spring. This will accumulate in the gutter. It's what forms that green / brown muck. Gutter guards will prevent downspout clogs but they won't keep the gutter totally clean. You still have to go up there once a year and clean them. The muck forms a crust in warm weather and builds in layers year after year.

If your gutters are vinyl you won't have a warranty issue if you use guards and don't clean the gutter every year. If they are aluminum, and you don't clean them, your 20 year warranty on the coil coated aluminum will be voided in the atmospheric conditions clause. It requires periodic maintenance (PM).

Most homes never have a gutter calculation done before the installation. Its an architectural requirement on most commercial buildings. This is a good site that will help you do a calculation yourself to see how well your system is designed. citysheetmetal.com

If your gutters were installed by lower life forms, and they did not use the pitch calculation for the height of the leading edge in reference to your roof eave; adding certain types of guards will create more problems than they solve. The reason the front of a gutter is lower than the back is to allow water to overflow the front when the rainfall exceeds its size or capacity.

A little more than you asked, but it helps to know this first.
