For all the people who are planning on going into a subdivision for trick-or-treating, PLEASE, find a place to park your vehicle and walk the streets instead of driving. Our subdivision has become very popular with people that live outside of it and it is very frustrating for us residents to try to walk with our children when there is a steady stream of vehicles driven by adults that, seeming, want to see just how much candy their kids can score in one evening. (I can think of no other reason for not parking and walking through a subdivision. No, you can't hit up every house if you walk, but does your kid really need that much candy? :x) I'm sure everyone knows someone who lives in a subdivision. Why not simply ask if you can park in their driveway so you can trick-or-treat in their subdivision. Parking and walking makes trick-or-treating safer for everyone! I remember when I was a kid and we used to go to my cousin's house in the Heather Hills subdivision in Garner and walk with her. I don't remember ever seeing parents driving the kids around that back then. Are kids too dang lazy to walk for their candy these days... or are parents just too dang lazy to walk with them? :? Also parents, please tell your kids that if the porch light isn't on, don't ring the doorbell... unless it is very obvious that there is someone giving candy out. We've had our dinner interrupted by kids coming too early (before the light has even been turned on!), had kids ringing our doorbell after the light has been turned off because it is late and we're putting our kids to bed (our kids go to bed at 9:00) and had kids continuing to ring it after we've run out of candy and turned the light off. :x At my house (and what I tell my kids)... no porch light = no candy! DISCLAIMER: These are personal pet peeves of mine and I'm in no way pointing fingers at anyone on here! However, I'm sure I'll upset someone by posting my thoughts. If so, sorry!
We had a new experience last night. Around 7:30 two boys that looked around 12 or 13 rang our doorbell and asked if we would be giving out candy on Halloween. I said yes and they asked if they could have some now! I was too surprised to say anything but, "absolutely not!" What is up with that?? I can't say I've ever had someone come to my door that early before!
I honestly don't know what they were thinking! They weren't in costume or anything. I'm just wondering how many houses they hit and if anyone actually gave them any candy.
Or maybe they were checking out who would be home that night and who wouldn't so they could tp the houses? LOL I would NOT be happy if my kids did that....I would be so embarrassed. I wonder if their parents know they did it?
I've got one to beat that! Last year (or the previous year-I cant remember which) We had 2 young adults (18-20 y/o) come to our house dressed up for Halloween and carrying their INFANT child-the kid was not more than 3 months old at the most!! It was fairly chilly out that night and there they were begging candy with their infant child. I asked them weren't they too old to be out trick or treating and they said they were taking the child out so he/she could get the experience of Halloween. That's just horse s%$#!! I gave them 1 piece of hard candy and told them to take their child home and put it to bed-babies cant eat candy and it was too cold for that baby to be out at night. I could not believe it-I guess there is no shame in this world....
When we lived in Greenville, there were several sororities that required their pledges to trick or treat (hazing). :x They came to our house dressed up and tried to get candy from us. I told them my candy was for children. My husband was in uniform and had his police car out front, about to leave to patrol downtown, so they didn't TP our house like they did some of our neighbors. Later found out they'd been turned in for it and the sororities were investigated for hazing. To all the overgrown children: buy your halloween candy Wednesday at 50% off! (Leave the actual trick-or-treating for the kids! You'll get better candy if you buy it yourself...LOL)
We've had teens come to the door (with no costumes) and hold out PILLOWCASES for us to put candy in! I just stood there and looked at them until they got the message.
If you want to go I have a "Grease" costume you can HAVE! I was a "Pink Lady"!!!! I was "Sandy" from the movie!   Like this except I have blonde hair!
I don't mind teenagers trick-or-treating. I actually think its a great way for them to have a little fun - as long as they aren't out vandalizing. If the teens actually dress up in a costume for the occassion - I think they are deserving of a little candy too. Overall it was a really fun night It's always fun getting to see all the cute little costumes and visiting with neighbors while they are out trick-or-treating Happy Halloween everyone I do have a Halloween pet peeve - too much candy. Between all the candy my son brought home & the leftover candy I don't think I'll be able to stay out of the chocolate
Here here. Anyone who comes to my door on Halloween in costume gets a treat. I found a great alternative to giving out candy. Juice boxes! (Or, this year, juice pouches). They're really not that expensive and the kids love them since, after eating all that candy, their dying of thirst. I do try to get those that contain real juice, or at least fortified with vitamin C.
I agree about the costume. If teenagers show up in regular clothes, they just get a lollipop from me. Good costumes get extra treats. That's a good idea about the juice boxes, especially since I only get a half dozen or so kids each year.
