Dear Friends of the Food Bank,

We have entered a Christmas Tree in WRAL's tree challenge (long story at the end if you want to read it). 50 Non-profits are vying for the top prize of $5,000. Our best bet is to win the popular vote. Voting is by text and there are NO LIMITS to how many texts you can send between now and Dec. 16. So text many times everyday. This is easy--

TEXT 46988 and enter the word TREE41. Please do it often and pass the word on to all you your friends, family, co-workers and call centers in India you know.

The long story--The Food Bank got the last tree after being on the waiting list. We think that is why we were then left off the distro list for future communications. The original brief did not state that the trees were going to be outside, but it did say the decorating would take place between 4-6 PM Dec. 2.

Pat Gunter, chair of the Durham Advisory Council and I had spent days before making "Food Ornaments". There are bagels and breadsticks, boxes of Jello and cans of Sardines. Marcia Corprew, of the Durham Council brought us the lights which Mal King and purchased and helped Pat and me decorate. Imagine our horror as we arrive to decorate a tree we thought was going to be inside, 4 hours after everyone else because the times had been changed to noon-5.

We did get it completed in time, and hope that it survives the elements. We are not sure that our food will stick around for the whole month it is displayed, but we figure anyone who steals food that had been hanging on an outdoor Christmas Tree really needs it and that is our mission.

You know that we can turn that $5,000 into $40,000 worth of food better than anyone.
