The pool gods smiled on me and our friend is giving us his pool but we need to move it from his house and install at ours (which would include leveling etc.) Does anyone have a name/number of someone in the area that does this? Thanks so much.

The absolute best pool installer I've ever used was Shayne Parrish of A-1 Pools. He moved and set up our pool 3 times. You might be able to get his number from Capitol Pools. Just don't tell them why you want it. They'll try to make you go thru them to have it set up so they can add $ to his price.

    ps/ There's a reason people give pools away . . .

Well we already know we are going to have to pay for the new liner, sand etc. AND that there is a chance that once we get everything running that we might need to replace other things but I figure it will still be less than buying the pool new. Plus, it's my husband's best friend so he wouldn't try to purposely mislead us about it.

Also, I've been trying to call around and one guy quoted me $875 for the installation only (which would include the grading etc. but not moving it). Does that sound reasonable for this kind of thing? Sorry for my ignorance on this subject!!

All depends on the size itself, the install is based on how big the pool is. Taking it down and moving it yourself is really not that big idea and will save ya bucks - another question, why do you need a new liner, is the one in there torn?

Oh no, not saying your friend mislead you. I just referring to the expense of keeping them up and running. Now some folks on here can go a whole season on $50 worth of chemicals. We were never that lucky. We spent HUNDREDS of dollars the last season we had ours up. That's why I do NOT recommend Capitol Pools to anyone. The best place around here to get your chemicals (in my opinion) is Clearwater Pools. Those boys know what they are doing.

Kaci is the pool goddess around here. She knows exactly what she's talking about when it comes to pools.

    Happy Swimming!

I don't know exactly what the problem with the liner is except that he said we would need to replace it so I'm taking his word for it. Also, he and my husband are going to take it down and bring it to our house to save some money. And I have heard that some folks don't spend much on chemicals but then others spend more. I'm hoping we'll maybe fall somewhere in the middle at least :)

Thanks for all of the input. I really appreciate it.

There is an old wive's tale that the liner has to be replaced anytime you move the pool but that is not true, as long as it is in good condition and has not been left in the sun without water on it, it should be fine to move and will save lots of $$$$.

Buy a new liner...don't try to save money that way, it's not worth it. A new liner will probably only run you about $150 and you won't have to worry about whether there is a weak spot, is stiff/brittle from chlorine, or if it got caught on something while things were being moved and now has a new hole, etc... When you have your water tested there are a couple of pool stores that will try to sell you everything under the sun. We found that if you shock the pool regularly and add algaecide, even the cheap stuff from Walmart/Target/Lowes is fine, especially if you can remember to shock it every time it rains, you will save big bucks trying to keep your pool clear/blue. The rain will mess with the pH every now and then.

Do you work for a pool place, cause I believe Kaci has. I'm just saying, no harm in checking to see if the other liner is usable. $150 is $150. No offense. 8)

You must be talking about an overlap liner, a beaded liner is going to run quite a bit more than that and again the cost is going to depend on the size of the pool. Question, i have never heard of a line getting stiff or brittle from chlorine, where did you get that info?

Nope that would not be me, i always went out of my way to save people money, long term business is a whole lot better than one quick big sale. i wanted people to enjoy their pool as much as i do mine.

Okay please tell me where I can get a liner for $150 because I called Capital Pools and Rising Sun and they both said the liners start at around $240!! And the guy that I talked to at one place said the water ranges from $250-300 and that I could look in the phone book for a water company but if anyone has recommendations for a water company that would be great too. It's nice to have insight from pool owners so I don't get taken for a ride because I'm a pool virgin!

If you want to buy a new liner, the best way is online, but determine first whether you need an overlap or a beaded and the exact size of the pool, both diameter and height. On the water thing, are you on JoCo water, if so it will only put your water bill up around $30 to fill a 24round 52" pool and the water is a really good basis to start with. If it is another water system, take it in and have it checked before filling with it.

Try online ordering, as long as you know the size of the pool, the shape of the pool, beaded or overlap.

If you need, i have two really good sites i use for a lot of my pool stuff, i would be glad to get them tonite and post for you. i am a firm believer in using good quality chemicals, seen too many pools messed up with cheap stuff and you can find good chemicals online without having to spend a fortune.

This is the truth. We moved our pool 3 times and saved the liner the last 2 times. We cut up the liner the first time we moved because that's what Capitol Pools told us to do. We found out too late that you can in fact save a liner.

We always folded our liner and put it in one of those very big trash cans with water. Never had a problem.

Also, if you can afford it, the beaded liner is the way to go. I'm not a big fan of the overlaps.

As for the chemicals, I agree 100% with Kaci. Don't buy your chemicals at Lowe's or Walmart, etc. They keep their chemicals from years past and you may be buying "expired" chemicals. Clearwater Pools has good prices on their chemicals. It may work out to be cheaper by the time you pay shipping from an online company.

Listen to Kaci - she knows what she's talking about!

I know the type you are speaking of and Kaci was not one of them. Now the lady that ran the place she worked was another story.
