We are going to need to replace our hot water heater soon and are planning to go from gas to electric so that we can do away with our propane tank (the hot water heater is the only thing left on it since the previous owners switched everything else over). So we need someone that can not only install it, but wire it for electric. Any recommendations for someone reliable, honest and reasonably priced? Thanks for any help!
There are plumbers out there who are certified to install (& wire) electric hot water heaters. You just have to call around long enough to find one! We were more than happy with the nice folks at Triangle Plumbing and Backflow, 341-1911. Good luck.
Before you go too far along you may want to look into getting a tankless hot water heater. It'll save you money and prices are coming down. You may have to look harder to find a plumber that can install these, but you can get them in either gas or electric.
Thanks for the replies! My husband actually is looking into the tankless hot water heaters, but we don't know anyone personally that has one, so we're wary of the expense without talking to anyone who has one. I did a search on hot water heaters here before posting this to make sure it had not been asked before and came across an old thread regarding tankless heaters. One reply included: My uncle has one in a lakehouse and is also a plumbing supplier for the last hundred years or so(at least 35-40 years). He was the final decision maker for me. Told me it was wonderful in the lakehouse, but not for everyday usage due to the laundry, dishwasher, etc. I guess if you are a single empty nester it would probably be a good investment. Does anyone know if this is the case? We do use a dishwasher and we have a fair amount of out of town company at times which can add 4 or 5 more people to the household. I hate to think of spending the extra money for tankless just to find that it is not adequate for us. Any input on that or anyone with personal experience?
Tankless W/H Had one in a commercial property I used to maintain. LOVED it. They never "run outta" hot water and they save you power because they dont have to hold the water in reserve. Get one, if you dont like it, I'll come take it off your hands
