I had a bad feeling about this when I heard the details the other day....... Why are these women being killed by their husbands? http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/3665026/ Fayetteville police have arrested two people in the stabbing death of a Fort Bragg soldier, including the woman’s husband. Police charged Sgt. Richard D. Smith, 26, and Pfc. Mathew Kvapil, 18, with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Smith's wife, Sgt. Christina E. Smith, 29. Police reported that Christina Smith was stabbed in the neck while she was walking with her husband near their house on Baxter Street Tuesday night. She died on the way to a local hospital. Richard Smith, a videographer for Psychological Operations, told detectives he ran toward the person stabbing his wife and the person ran away. He said he then ran to a neighbor's house for help. “The husband stated that he somehow turned back around and his wife was being attacked,” Fayetteville Police Department spokeswoman Theresa Chance said. He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries. Police would not discuss the nature of his wounds. Christina Smith was a graphics illustrator in Company A, 5th Battalion, officials said. She was a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, earned awards including the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Korea Defense Service Medal. She arrived at Fort Bragg in April 2006. Her husband came to the base in February that year. An Army spokesperson on Thursday said Richard Smith has served in Iraq but has been home for more than a year.
When I read that story yesterday morning... I thought to myself.. something just didn't sound right and it really reminded me of the story that came out of Boston back in the late 80's. Charles Stuart had his brother help him with a theft for insurance money, and then he shot himself and his pregnant wife while they were in their car and claimed to have been attacked. There's a movie based on it that runs on tv now and then, it's called "Goodnight, Sweet Wife: A Murder in Boston".
Yep - I remember that one. Also reminded me of the lady from Clayton that took her DH to the Raleigh park and had her BF and friends kill him, for ins $$.
It's just sickening that all these wives have been 'missing' and/or murdered around here lately.........
Yep...the morning they were coming to arrest him, I think it was because his brother had flipped on him. He drove his car to the Tobin Bridge, left a note, left it running (i think) and jumped off. I still remember the film footage on the news of them searching for his body and pulling him up. I was working at a small convenience store & deli, and it was the only thing that EVERYONE was talking about. My mom had kept furs in storage at his facility in previous years, so we followed the story pretty closely. In your link on the Wikipedia info.. it says there was no suicide note left.. but I swear I remember there was a note left in the car to his family that said he was sorry.
