First, thanks for all the quick replies to Mordorboy's request. Here's our second one. The Robeson county vet called and our rescue lab is HW positive 3/5 with 5 being the worst. I called our local vet but not really any discounts for a rescue. Didn't know if anyone here was familiar with a rescue vet/group that discounted their fees some for a rescue situation?

The Robeson vet did his neuter for 45 as a deal they worked out with the shelter but the HW treatment is arsenic only for 500 as they do not do the heartgard treatment at all.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh, I think I know which lab you're talking about. I torture myself by looking at Craigslist and all the pound animals that are listed. Anyway, I'm 99% positive that I know what your new addition looks like -- congrats and THANK YOU for saving him!!

Try Stage Rd Animal Hospital, 639-3337, and see how much they'll charge to treat him. I have found that they are about the most reasonable vet in this area. Best wishes!

    may~

Mine was 3/5, heading twds a 4. They basically have to poison the dog to kill the heartworms. Don't fret, however. Keeping him/her STILL and COOL are the critical aspects to the meds. Once the heartworms start dieing, they can break apart and act like clots. That's why you keep the dog very settled.

Old Stage seems like the best place to start. I don't remember my vet offering discounts for special circumstances, otherwise I'd offer.

    Good luck!!

Clayton Animal Hospital and Willowrun in Smithfield work with rescue org.s Don't know what the financial arrangements are, but you might want to call them.

    Good Luck

Thanks, ljk! Sirius did much better last night in his (your) crate. No night time bathroom breaks needed. Both dogs are at my feet right now chewing on their rawhides and look so sweet together. Unfortunately, I cannot leave the room or things turn ugly...
