Anyone heard anything about this project? I know there is no fuding for 540 and they are looking at toll roads. I was reading through minutes to Town of Garner Alderman meetings and found then info. below. Perhaps Johnston County should start making a case for the expressway to come our way ...for better highway access and I expect it would bring more value to property in the area.

The Expressway did so much to get US 64 bound traffic moving around Raleigh and off the Beltline. However, now 70 and 40 traffic will suffer for a number of years. The 70 Bypass will just shift the problem. From Rock Quarry to the new 70 will have increased congestion for a number of years for all the foot dragging.

Then, its an almost guarantee we'll see the Expressway pick up as a toll road from 64 to 70 and penalize anyone who lives or commutes through that corridor. The entire Expressway should have been a toll road and the funds would have helped possibly fund future legs of the road. It may be an unpopular thought, but even a little extra taxing in Wake and neighboring counties could help. Let's face it...practically everyone in Johnston County would use it at some time. Same for the other immediate surrounding counties. If nothing more, they will benefit by decreased road congestion in their backyards.

540 or "the outer loop" as it was referred to before they started talking about the beltline's inner and outer loops, has been on the planning books for 30 plus years, but the eastern portion is still not scheduled to be bothered with for another 15 to 20. so, no, it's not funded yet....

I believe the Toll Authority is looking at ways to get it funded.
