I need to get to I 83 north of Baltimore. The last time i went i did I 95 all the way. Disaster traffic wise both ways. Does anyone have any secret ways to get past DC?

The map looks like US 301 might work. I will drive further if time is less. Any help.

301 is a lot of stop and go traffic once you cross in to MD. 95 is hit or miss, the best bet is to plan your trip around the peak times. The best times I have found outside of the middle of the night are:
Heading north, pass through Richmond after 9:00 AM but before 1:00PM. Coming South, get through DC before 10:00 AM but not during the 8:00AM rush.

301 is a fun route to take if you have the time. You'll hit every town along the way and all the red lights to go with them.

DontCareHow is right. The best way to navigate DC is to time your arrival to Fredricksburg (south of DC) and Baltimore on the North end. That's a 90 minute drive with little traffic.

Also, take the 495 beltway West and not East! Everyone traveling the 95 corridor goes east. West only adds about 6 miles to the distance and it is less traveled. It also has 2 additional lanes up to the Gaithersburg 270 turn off.
