Some kids in my neighborhood have been shooting at our house with pellet guns.

We now have two windows on the front of the house hit and the windshield in my van. I have yet to inspect more areas.

The damage makes me furious. The fact that those pellets could hit MY KIDS makes me downright livid!

What the heck is wrong with people.

It would not surprise me for my neighbor's children to have pellet guns and do something like that.

Sheriff or police. Is this a random act or happening at a particular time of day or night?

I tell you what would be good to do for them. Run out of the house with a double barrel shotgun and pump about two rounds high into the air. They'd probably leave their shoes behind for running so scared. They need to have the crap scared out of them. I had an air rifle with I was a kid. Although I did shoot at birds (yeah, I know) I knew better than to shoot a people or property.

Truly though, this is the sheriff's business or police department and you should file a report, do a little sleuthing to find out when this is taking place and even who might be doing it and ask the law to come by and check at that particular time.

You'd probably get arrested for scaring the kids and then sued by the parents.

We recently noticed the two windows and then DH came in about 8:15 pm and actually heard the pellets hitting our house. He could tell it came from a neighbors yard so he went over and talked to them. Their teenage son has a pellet gun and hangs out with 3 other teens. Our neighbor's kid has always been a good kid and I love him to death, but I'm seeing signs that he's getting with a bad group possibly & it breaks my heart (and possibly is breaking my windows too)

Anyway, DH told the kid and his parents that if it happened again or if he caught the kid or his friends doing it, he was calling the sherrif. The parents just sat there and did not say ANYTHING at all.

His parents used to be good friends of ours but since another neighbor got mad at us and spread some slanderous lies around (as I stated in another thread), they don't have anything to do with us now. Well, except they always let their younger two kids come hang out in our yard to play with our kids. And I adore these kids because I've known them since birth. Guess we are not such horrible people that they don't mind us watching out for their kids, huh?

I just don't get parents these days. Honestly, I think some parents are just happy to have their kids out of their hair. Me, I want my kids around. I wanna know what they are doing, where, with who and for how long. And I like having all the other kids around too. The kids seem to all like playing in my yard. Funny how kids can usually see through the lies and gossip that most adults are all to willing to buy.

Why not secretly return fire towards their windows?

After all it would be the neighborly thing to do.

Should we consult TitforTat about this option?

Probably a lot of variables, depending on where you lived and whose property they were on. The suggestion was made sort of tongue in cheek, but some times it takes a little extra influence to get some people straight. The most level-headed and sensible thing to do, however is obviously call the law. Also, I wouldn't even give them a second chance. If somebody is purposefully shooting (even with a BB gun) at your house, its time for immediate action.

It IS against the law to shoot anything into an occupied home. I was told by the police. If they are doing this, you need to call the police. They can get into big trouble. What ever you do DO NOT shoot back. That's just plain crazy! But I would get the law involved. It might just be enough to scare the little hoodlums!
Believe me, these kind of kids are everywhere. Be thankful, the ones in our neighborhood use REAL guns. Not too long ago one kid got shot (sure you seen it on the news). But these parents don't care. Like someone else said the kids are out of their hair!

Won't law enforcement just tell me I have to prove who did it?

No, it's their job to investigate who did it.

Here's a trick. Tell the kids parents that you have turned the pellets over to the police and they are performing a ballistics test on the pellets. Next week they will be going door to door and asking who owns pellet guns. Then tell them the police said if the culprit will step up, before they go door to door, and pay for the damage they will stop the investigation.

One of two things will happen. The kid will come confess or that pellet gun will get thrown out. If the kid comes forward tell him to pay for the windows and you want the gun destroyed in front of you. Either way that pellet gun is a gonner.

Very clever but can you actually perform a ballistics test on pellets?
