Long story short... I've been researching pet foods because one of my dogs is allergic to chicken and after a few months she is no longer eating her dry lamb & rice dry food very well, so I decided to spice up her dry food by mixing in some quality canned food. After the recent mess with canned foods I'm a little leery of giving her canned at all, which is why I've been reading labels and comparing so I can decide which canned food, if any, would be best to feed her. Anyway, during my research, I came across an article that is completely sickening. BEFORE YOU READ IT I need to issue a QUEASY STOMACH ALERT! http://www.preciouspets.org/rendering.htm If this is still happening today (the original article is from 1990) then this is affecting not only our pets' foods, but OUR FOODS as well. The meat sources we eat is being fed this crap? The milk we drink comes from cows eating this? The eggs we use... etc, etc. Please say it ain't so! I came across these articles while digging and found them very interesting as well. http://www.api4animals.org/facts?p=359&more=1cat=286 http://www.earthisland.org/eijournal/new_articles.cfm?articleID=1147&journalID=93
OMG..did they have to be so graphic??? I couldnt get passed the second paragraph..its beyond quesy stomach...
YACK! I am now going to live off of bottled water and.... hell fire what else is safe? Or is bottled water safe?
Yuck!! However...I didn't see a date on that article. If I am not mistaken I believe the USDA have now passes new laws about putting "animal products" in animal food. Since the outbreak of mad cow disease I believe this is outlawed. Keep in mind, no, I didn't look up the law and am just speculating here as to what I remember. I do know my dad is a dairy farmer and I know some of the feed products have changed as far as what to feed animals. May not help your stomach at all, but keep that in mind. Since mad cow disease, alot of things have changed!!
While I can't say officially if this still goes on, legally it's not supposed to. That's where Mad Cow disease comes from. Rendering does occur, but it's not supposed to go into our food (except perhaps as a fertilizer).
The article is from 1990. I sure hope it isn't like that now! Even so, it makes me wonder about what we may have ingested in the past and the relation to all the cancers and diseases people, young and old, are suffering from now. :?
canola oil???? What's a canola? This article is disturbing too..... http://www.ithyroid.com/canola_oil.htm
I discovered the practice of "rendering" when researching a cancer diet for my little guy. I am a member of several canine cancer support groups and I learned lots about what is in our pets' foods. Disgusting! "meat meal" "protein meal" ugh!
Thanks KDs...I must admit, I failed to Snope that one. I thought it came from a very reliable source. :?
Know what you mean, it always surprises me when info from "certain people" turns out not to be reliable - even though they usually can be counted on for the straight stuff. Ah well, no biggie.
Folks, granted they need to be more careful, but this is the responsible "Green" thing to do. Think about the food chain for that Tilapia you are going to eat Friday. And I have heard a government official state that as long as Raleigh flushes their toilets we don't have to worry about drinking water. You might not like it but a lot more of this is going to happen in the future whether you blame it on "Global Warming" or a growing population.
-I was talking with the Army Corps rep at Falls Lake one day and he said that "one man's waste is another man's water". Food for thought
YUCK! Sutures and fur, evidence of rendering, sticking out of dry dog food. http://www.boston-terriers.com/food.htm
