http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29002838/ This is a story of a 4 year old in CA who died after climbing in one and having the start button accidentally pushed. I NEVER thought of this happening.:cry::cry:
That story is just so sad. My heart breaks for this family. When I was young my parents had a washing machine that had some kind of part that was like two rolling pins, my mother would feed the clothes through it and into the machine. One day I pushed the button and stuck my hand in between those pins, like I had seen my mother do with clothes, because I was curious. Of course, my hand got stuck, bones broken and I was screaming. My mother was able to unplug the machine, break the hold and get my hand out. After a trip to the military hospital I stayed away from that machine and my parents decided to unplug some items because of my curiosity. Of course, I did not die but this story brought those memories back. Sherry
I agree this is an awful thing to have happened.....but another painful reminder why you should WATCH your children all the time.
the parent should have been arrested for neglect. Yes accident happen but any decent parent who owned one should have seen that coming. You take precautions. It your JOB as a parent. To PROTECT and think of these stupid things before the kids do.
OMG this brought back memories for me as well. I feel so bad for this family! Way back in the day when my little brother would get on my last nerve and always coming into my room. I dared him one day to get in the dryer and then I shut the door and turned it on, just a couple of tubbles and let him out. Just enough to scare him. When I let him out he was laughing and I said next time I won't let you out. I was the evil older sister. sheri
The worst part about this is that on most Front loader Washing Machines, when you close the door and start the machine, the door will lock electronically. Wow, how could anyone not watch their child and not notice that the kid is in the washing machine.
What a sad story. I really feel bad for these parents. You can tell kids a zillion times not to do something ... but some are still going to be curious. Baby Girl has a fascination with the buttons on the front of our maching. She has turned my washer off a number of times. However, it takes pressing 2 buttons to turn our front load machine on and she hasn't figured that out yet. We leave our washer door closed all the time but in the case of a 4 year old, I'm sure the child knew how to open the door. I know many with front loaders leave their door open to let the machine dry out. This could be a safety hazard ... but I'm sure most folks wouldn't turn the washer on with a kid inside. I just really can't find fault with anyone in this story. A curious 4 year old climbed in the washer. I'm sure she didn't realize how dangerous it was ... even if her parents had warned her. I'm sure no one anticipated the baby turning the thing on. I can't imagine how horrified the mom was when she found her daughter. The mom may have been in the bathroom. The story said it was just 2 minutes ... I don't think I could really fault these parents or the kids. It was just a horrible accident. This wasn't a story about a Mom leaving for work after her 5 year old walked alone to the bus stop ... this was a Mom who looked away for 2 minutes and now has suffered the devastating loss of a child.
:iagree: go easy on the parents or parent here.. its horrible and ask yourself do you watch your child every second or minute in the house if you know in your heart that your house is kept in a way that is safe.. How many of you send your kids to go do something and to entertain yourself for a little while, I'm going to get lunch or dinner ready. As bad as it is unless there is a history of neglect or unsupervision I don't think the mother should be punished. That I'm afraid has already been handed out. She will live with that for the rest of her life. God help her.
OK who is this??? Mrs. Stollings, does Wayne know what you just did?? He may be a little upset.:cheers:
Yes it would be nice if our kids never had to leave our sight but this was an unfortunate accident. We cannot imagine how these parents must feel and the guilt they will live with for the rest of there life. I agree to give them a break. If you read the article it said the child was in there about 2 minutes. Think about 2 minutes the mom could have simply ran to the bathroom.
