We have invisible fence in our yard for our dog--we also have a wood fence for when she is outside and we are not home. We are considering getting another dog. I have heard that the invisible fence is not good for small dogs. The invisible fence people tell me it is fine--but I am sure they will tell me anything to get the $ for the new collar. Do any of you have experience or opinion about invisible fence for small dogs--about 15 lbs.

    Thanks

I do not have a small dog but I do have an invisable fence. The collar we have for my dog has different levels. Maybe you could find a collar like that and set it only on level 1. I don't know what type of system you have but petsmart has collars only. Unsure if they will work with your system. Good luck.

The only problem I have encountered with using a collar of a small dog (I have one small one that weighs 11lbs - is that the collar is too big to leave on him. It's heavy and the contacts are quite large (even the smallest one I could get) - so IF you have a dog door and the dog can come and go on it's own - like I have, it isn't practical. If you have the option of keeping the dog inside and placing the collar on him when you want him to go out, then it's not a bad option.

I placed the collar on my little one once - after 5 minutes I felt bad for him as he looked miserable with it on his neck and took it off, never to put it back on him - it's been 4 years and never used it again. If I knew where it was, I'd give it to you, DH may have tossed it, he was ticked at me for even considering it would work on the little feller.
