OMG, middle son called me and he has bought a Jack Russell Terrior for my DH for Christmas  While i had no intention of bringing another dog into the house while my baby girl Mayan is so old; DH has always wanted a JRT.

Anyone have any suggestions on training them or info on crate training? i have never done it but i understand it is a wonderful method.

Just what you needed! A puppy to worry the crap out of Mayan!

Jack Russells need LOTS of attention!! And I mean LOTS!!! With the hours that your DH works, you will be the one with a puppy to train, not him. :?

Your son should have asked you first! Want me to beat him up for you?

It was a very nice thought....

JRT's are HIGH energy and need lots of mental stimulation or they get into trouble. I would hightly reccomend crate training especially for when you are not home. Provide him with lots of long walks and toys that require thought. (the balls that you hide food in and they have to roll them around to get the food out is always good. You can also freeze peanut butter in a kong for him to have to play with to get the pb out...)

Google crate training and there are a lot of good articals- here is one,

They can be wonderful dogs but you need to definetly 'start out right' to make the future easier.

Did you other son get a puppy too?

    Good luck

It is the same son, he found a sister and brother JRT about 15weeks old with vet records, etc. Got one for them and the other for his Dad. i know what you mean about hyper, everything i have found and read about JRT sounds so much like my Mayan when she was young.

Thanks for the info ljk, i have never crate trained but thought it seems the way to go. i googled it but there were so many different opinions and articles i thought i would reach out for you guy's expertise :D

She is adorable and already taken over our household  He was shocked but totally fell immediately in love. She spent her first night sleeping on DH's chest :D
