JCS Board of Education Observes Black History Maker

    During its meeting on Tuesday, February 8, the Johnston County Board of
    Education recognized special visitor Hernando Palmer of Smithfield, who
    is one of the original Tuskegee Airmen, as a special observance for
    Black History Month. The Tuskegee Project selected about 1,000 men and
    women during World War II, who were trained and who earned Wings in
    piloting, navigation, bombardiering, and gunning. See Flight Officer
