    Open Houses at South, West Johnston high schools
    South Johnston High School will host its Winter Open house on Monday, January 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Staff will be available. At 6 p.m., an informational session on financial aid will be presented from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. From 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., information on Senior projects and related items will be provided. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., an interpretation of the PSAT and New SAT will be presented.
    At West Johnston, Open House will take place at the school from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Staff will be available for questions.

    McGee's Middle Students Win at Career Conference
    Ten McGee's Middle School students participated in the Career Exploration Clubs of America Region 6 Leadership Conference on January 8 at Harnett Central Middle School. Three first place trophies were awarded to the students, and one team placed third. The conference teaches leadership and other important career-related skills, and allows students to practice those skills they've learned.

    Writer-in-Residence at Meadow
    Tony Peacock, writer, storyteller, teacher, and National Hollerin' Champion will be at Meadow School from January 26 through 30. His classes and performances have been called "an amazing story of connecting and bonding."

    Cleveland Elementary to Host Talent Show
    The Cleveland Elementary School Annual Talent Show and Reflections Awards program will be held on Tuesday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. during its PTA meeting in the cafeteria. The Reflections program, which features art, literature, music, and photography, will recognize students who participated.

    Johnston Students Continue Compassionate Aid
    Benson Elementary School students participated in a "Change for the Children" coin drive to raise money for victims of the recent tsunami. The money is being donated to the "Save the Children" program.

    At Cleveland Elementary School, second-grade students observed the 100th day of school by collecting $100 to send to the American Red Cross on behalf of the tsunami victims, to raise awareness that the disaster is a world disaster, not just Asia's*and to teach compassion.

    Ronald McDonald to Appear at Cleveland Elementary
    McDonald's Ronald McDonald will visit Cleveland Elementary School on Tuesday, February 15 for two shows on good character at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.*one for kindergartners and first graders, another for second and third graders. The evening has also been deemed McDonald's Night at Cleveland Elementary.

    Wilson's Mills To Hold Workshop for Upcoming Kindergartners
    Kindergarten, Here We Come! a parent workshop entitled, "Kindergarten, Here we Come!" for children transitioning from pre-K to kindergarten next fall. The workshop will be held on Thursday, February 20 from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. A hot dog dinner will precede at
    6 p.m. Also on that day, a fourth grade Family Breakfast will be held for students and their parents, families, and teachers from 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. in the fourth grade hallway.

    Tanner Named Vice Chair to District Title I Organization
    Elizabeth Tanner, No Child Left Behind/Pre-K Coordinator for the Johnston County Schools, has been elected Vice-Chairman of the Title I Directors of District 1 organization. She assumed her duties this month.
