Four Oaks Student Wins Poster Contest Mitch McLamb, a fifth grade student at Four Oaks Elementary, won the Johnston County Soil and Water Conservation poster contest. The theme for the poster contest was "The Living Soil". After winning this contest, Mitch's poster was entered into the regional competition with Johnston County and eleven other county conservation districts. East Clayton to Celebrate North Carolina Day On Friday April 15, 2005, East Clayton Elementary will have the 2nd biannual North Carolina Day. This is a day filled with activities and presentations which allow students to explore the history, culture, fun and even tastes associated with our great state. Each class will have a schedule of presenters throughout the day, rotating every 30 minutes. The presentations begin at 9:00 a mandendat230p.m.Presenters include Duke's Lifeflight Helicopter, Birdman Dave and his feathered friends telling Cherokee tales, a clogging demonstration by the DanceArt Cloggers, and a re-enactment of Blackbeard, the pirate. WJHS DECA Competes in State Competition The West Johnston Chapter of DECA sent nine members to participate in the chapter's first ever State Career Development Conference March 9-12 in Greensboro, NC. Every member competing received honors for their particular event. In addition, West placed four individuals as state finalists in their events. To be a finalist you must be in the top eight in the state for your competitive event. The state finalists were Michelle Gregory and Jessie Jones for Hospitality Team Event; Tyler Murray for Quick Serve Restaurant Management; and, Justin Fulton for Fashion Merchandising Promotional Plan. Justin Fulton also placed second in the state in the Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan event. Justin now has the opportunity to represent not only West Johnston High School, but also Johnston County and the state of North Carolina at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, CA at the end of April.
