    Students Place in Regional Science Olympiad Competition
    Students from McGee's Middle, Cleveland Middle, and Princeton Middle schools participated in the annual Science Olympiad Regional competition on Saturday, February 7. The teams competed against experienced teams from more than 30 schools from 5 counties. McGee's Crossroads team placed in two events: Erin Lineberger and Jordan Johnson received a second place medal in Process Skills in Life Science and Matthew Tucker and Ashley Culler received a fourth place medal in Metric Mastery. Other students competing Saturday were: Dillon Frame and Terry Lee, 6th grade; Erin Lineberger, 7th grade; and Ashley Culler, Alexis Adrian, Kellie McMullen, Billy McIsaac, Matthew Tucker, Jordan Johnson and Kevin Navolanic, 8th grade. Their Science teacher is Cinnamon Frame. The Cleveland Middle team was comprised of Paul Anderson, Robert Anderson, Alex Barbee, Cody Citrak, Dylan Crouch, Ethan Mabry, Ryan Moon, Zach Moreland, Ariel Nikas, Jessica Prudente, and Jeffrey Taylor. The team participated in 15 events and won medals in three: Paul Anderson in "Bridge Building"; Cody Citrak and Jeffrey Taylor in "Write It-Do It"; and Alex Barbee and Ethan Mabry in "Naked Egg Drop". Princeton Middle students had an 18-student team that brought home 10 medals. Winning first place in "The Wright Stuff" event was Olivia Booker and Brooke Worley; first place, "Mission Possible", Gib Martin, Olivia Booker, and Brooke Worley; second place, "Road Scholars", Chris Langdon and Zach Evans; third place, "Reach for the Stars", Willie Sheffield and Jeremiah Pope; "Wheeled Vehicle", Jeremiah Pope and B. J. Creech; "Bridge Building", B.J. Creech and Jeremiah Pope; "Robo Billiards", Willie Sheffield and Tristan Gaskins; fourth place, "Ride It-Do It", Brooke Worley and Olivia Booker; "Bottle Rocket", Willie Sheffield and Jeremiah Pope; fifth place, "Forestry", Gib Martin and Tristan Gaskins. The team also included Catherine Massey, Dezzaray Wood, Wes Bullock, Katie Woodard, Theresa Shriver, Jenny Wood, Austin Gustafson, Victoria Massey, Ashley Gagliano.

    West Smithfield Elementary Participating in Jump Rope For Heart
    Third through fifth grade students at West Smithfield Elementary will jump rope for the heart through February 23. They will perform various rope skills.

    Book Fair at Benson Elementary
    Benson Elementary School will sponsor a book fair March 3-11 in the library. On March 5, the PTA will host a spaghetti supper.

    North Johnston Middle Students Assisting Terminal Patients
    North Johnston Middle School is participating in the Pennies for Patients Campaign to raise money for the NC Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The school campaign begins on Monday, February 9 and will run through February 27.

    Cleveland Elementary Sets Date for Annual Spring Carnival
    Cleveland Elementary Schools' annual Spring Carnival will be held on Saturday, March 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring large blown-up rides, an Easter Egg hunt, pictures with the Easter bunny, food, and games. Profits will be donated to the teachers who run the events.

    Cooper Elementary School Sets Dinner Theater Date
    Cooper Elementary School will hold its annual Dinner Theater with a beach music theme on Friday, March 5 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Cooper gym. Tickets are $7.00 and go on sale February 16.
    Also at Cooper:
    Students will participate in the school Science Fair March 30 through April 2. The projects will promote science and creativity.
    The school will host a Parent Reception and Fairy Tale Ball on April 16 at 8:30 a.m. in the Cooper gym.
    The school's Parent Night and Book Fair will be held on April 22 at 6:30 p.m.

    South Johnston Lending Assistance with Financial Aid Forms
    South Johnston High School counselors will be at the school on Saturday, February 21 to provide help with completing FAFSA or other financial aid information.

    Reading with Dr. Seuss at McGee's Elementary
    The McGee's Elementary School Literacy Committee and students will celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss' birthday March 1-5, 2004. Activities will focus on reading, writing, Big Hat trivia related to Dr. Seuss books, reading with buddies, and guest readers.

    Selma Elementary Talent Show Fundraiser
    Two talent shows will showcase the gifts of Selma Elementary School students on Thursday, March 4 and Friday, March 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Selma Elementary School auditorium. The event is a fundraiser for the school's character education program.

    Annual Battle of the Books Slated
    Johnston County Schools will once again host its annual Battle of the Books competition on Thursday, March 4, 2004 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the West Campus Media Center. This competition involves the most enthusiastic readers from Johnston County's middle schools. During this competition, students answer questions from approximately 20 novels they have read this year.
