    Johnston County Schools Spring Break
    Students will be on Spring Break Friday, April 9 through Wednesday, April 14. Classes will resume on Thursday, April 15.

    Men of Distinction Conducting White Ribbon Campaign
    Clayton High School's Men of Distinction will host a representative from Harbor Inc. to gather information about the NC Coalition Against Sexual Assault's White Ribbon campaign. Mayor Jody McLeod will present a proclamation. The event will take place on April 16 from 8:50 a.m. to 9:35 a.m. in room 311. The objective is to educate men about violence against women to enlist their support towards ending it. Wearing a white ribbon is a pledge to "never commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women."

    West Smithfield Students Walking from Manteo to Murphy
    Students and teachers are walking the school's track during recess and calculating their mileage until they reach the 545 mile-equivalent from Manteo to Murphy. Each grade level class is competing to be the first to reach the goal. The purpose of the exercise is to promote healthful living and life-long health.

    Chamber Computer Drive Continues at Selma Middle
    Sixth grade students at Selma Middle School will receive their very own computers for home use, courtesy of a computer drive hosted by the Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. The distribution will take place on April 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the school.

    Four Oaks Elementary Hosting Talent Extravaganza
    Four Oaks Elementary School will hold a schoolwide talent show on Friday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The event will feature students, teachers, teacher assistants, and even the Principal. Admission is $5 for adults and children five years or older. Proceeds will fund a sound system for the cafetorium and gymnasium.

    Cleveland Middle Students Shine in FBLA State Conference
    Student members of the Cleveland Middle School FBLA Chapter competed and placed in the FBLA State Leadership Conference on March 26 and 27. Competing members were Danie Heider, who placed third in the state in Business Math, Julie Hunt, who placed in the top nine in the state in Business Computer Technology, Brandy Suggs who also placed in the top nine of the state in Keyboarding Applications I, Courtney Applewhite in Keyboarding Applications II, Jordan Beverley in FBLA Creed, and Hanna Mashburn in Public Speaking.

    SSS Student Faculty Game Nets More Than $1,000
    A recent student-faculty basketball game at Smithfield-Selma High School netted more than $1,000, which will be used to initiate a scholarship for a deserving SSS student. The faculty edged past the students for the win.
