    Governor's School Students Chosen
    Four Johnston County Schools students have been chosen to attend the 2004 session of the Governor's School. The students and their areas of study include: Alicia K. Allen, South Johnston High, mathematics, Governor's School East; Amanda M. Quinn, Smithfield-Selma High School, mathematics, Governor's School East; Andrea L. Stephenson, West Johnston High, art, Governor's School West; Kenneth F. Rooks, South Johnston High, mathematics, Governor's School West.

    Career Dress-Up Day at Selma Elementary
    Selma Elementary School students will complete a unit of careers on April 28 by dressing in the outfit or uniform that represents the work they would like to do when they grow up. The unit raised the students' awareness about the myriad of careers available to them. During the week of April 26, parents and community members will visit the school to make presentations about their careers.

    South Smithfield Hosts Magic Show
    Golden Corral will present a free program featuring Isabelle the Clown entitled, We Care, at South Smithfield Elementary School for the pre-school and kindergarten students. Isabelle will teach about the Golden Rule and perseverance,

    Scholarship Awards Ceremony Slated for May 19
    West Johnston High School will host its first Scholarship Awards ceremony for seniors on May 19 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium.

    West Smithfield Students Walking from Manteo to Murphy
    Students and teachers are walking the school's track during recess and calculating their mileage until they reach the 545 mile-equivalent from Manteo to Murphy. Each grade level class is competing to be the first to reach the goal. The purpose of the exercise is to promote healthful living and life-long health.

    Chamber Computer Drive Continues at Selma Middle
    Sixth grade students at Selma Middle School will receive their very own computers for home use, courtesy of a computer drive hosted by the Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. The distribution will take place on April 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the school.
