"Career Village" Promotes Kindergarten Parent Involvement at West Clayton
A tour awaits those who venture into the "Career Village" at West Clayton Elementary School on Friday, March 24. From 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., each of the nine kindergarten classrooms will house a different theme and individuals from the community whose careers relate to that theme. These themes will include: animal services, food services, medical, community helpers, sports, home décor, construction and landscape, the military, and other services. Teachers and parents have arranged for participants to set up stations in the classrooms to provide demonstrations for the students in the form of hands-on learning experiences. These demonstrations may include learning the names of and performing specific dance moves in the sports room or touring an ambulance in the community helpers room. Teachers will rotate with their classes through each of the nine rooms every fifteen minutes, dividing their classes into small groups within each room. Parents will be invited to attend the tour as well.

Round Robin Writing at West Clayton Elementary School
The luck of the Irish and tradition of the Leprechaun will be part of the second grade on Friday, March 17, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students and parents will be participating in an exciting parent involvement activity where they will be writing a St. Patrick's Day story together, then presenting them to the whole group. Students and parents will extend this activity at home by writing a spring story similar to the one written in the classrooms. Second grade teachers, students, and parents look forward to this activity. The goal is to help children reach their own personal academic success by creating a positive connection between home and school.
For more information, please contact Michele Thornton, Second Grade Teacher, or Dorlisa Johnson, Assistant Principal at 919.553.7113.
