    Johnston County NC Law Enforcement
On Saturday January 17th 2015, Katie Bennett, daughter of Officer Holly Bennett, was hit by a Drunk Driver on US 70 in Princeton, NC. Katie who is 19 yrs old and a full time student was on her way to take a test for EMS - EMT Intern, when she was plowed into by this drunk driver. Katie was working two part time jobs and going to school to support herself. As information comes to us, she was transported to Wake Med badly injured, and has suffered broken bones and glass lacerations.
Katie is home now trying to recover, but her medical bills is piling up and she now has no transportation. We as a Johnston County community, need to pull together and help this young lady back on her feet.
You can do this by donating what ever you can to the GoFundMe website for Katie Bennett set up by her family.
The link is ....... http://www.gofundme.com/kdx2rs. Any and all donations are accepted and we are still praying for her speedy recovery. Thanks !!

How in the world could this happen when we have the wonderful obamacare that lets grown folks up to 20+ stay on parents insurance or get government subsidized insurance?

She may very well have insurance but these days many plans (both commerical and those through the Health Insurance Marketplace) have high deductibles and coinsurance. We have great insurance but with a $500 deductible and 20% coinsurance it doesn't take long with a hospital stay to rack up thousands of dollars in bills that you are responsible for.

:iagree: Seems like the concentration should be on helping instead of cork bringing in politics.

We passed that wreck on our way to Atlantic Beach Saturday morning, and I am relieved this girl is alive. I haven't been able to get it off my mind. God must have a plan for her. Geez, it was a shocking scene, thank God she made it.

Doesn't the car insurance pay for Medical portion of the injuries? regardless if she had Medical insurance or not? Just the very reason we ALL need Medical insurance, Car insurance, and Life insurance!!!! Praying that she gets well quick :)

It depends on the coverages owned by each party, the circumstances, the insurance carriers and the amounts involved.

A friend of my son got almost nothing from being hit by a tow truck, which was at fault because the insurance company refused to pay and the attorney he retained got the best settlement he could, but the medical bills would not have been paid without his health insurance. If he had not had health insurance he would have been deep in debt.

Couldn't the innocent party file a civil suit for damages to cover the "uncovered" medical expenses? I know that's not an immediate solution and would take time, but at least it might offer some long-term financial relief.

As long as the party causing the injury had the assets to cover the judgement, but most people do not.

if she has insurance, she can file for Med pay, which will pay her medical bills now, thru her insurance, and then they can arbitrate for reimbursement from the at fault party's insurance. Regardless, he hit her, he needs to pay for everything.

    Praying for a speedy recovery!
