Smithfield, NC – The County of Johnston and Clayton EMS are currently implementing a transition plan that will transfer EMS responsibilities from Clayton EMS to the County on July 1, 2012. The goal of this transition is to continue to provide the community served by this agency with the best possible emergency medical services.

Art Mercer, Clayton EMS Chief commented, "While Clayton EMS is currently financially stable, when we look back five years and look forward five years it is clear that the future needs of EMS requires the infrastructure a county system provides. Long range, this is the optimal plan for patients and Clayton EMS employees. "

"We appreciate the tireless efforts of the Clayton EMS board members and employees. They have been dedicated to providing great medical care to the community for many years. We will continue to provide excellent service." stated Kim Robertson, Johnston County Director of Emergency Services.
