Johnston County Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater

    Smithfield, NC -- The Central Johnston County wastewater collection system experienced a sewage spill on December 19, 2013 at 1623 Polenta Road. The spill was caused by an inoperable sewer valve. The spill was estimated at 8,000 gallons, of which, 2,000 gallons was recovered and disposed in the County wastewater system. The remaining 6,000 gallons entered an unnamed tributary to Steep Hill Branch. The spill has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources.

    This notice is required by NC General Statues, Article 21, Chapter 143-215C. For more information, contact the Johnston County Public Utilities Department at (919) 989-5075.

    Thanks. Saw them working on it the other night. Right by Cleveland high school. Boy did it stink.

    Glad I am upstream of that on all the streams and rivers in the area.
