Johnston County Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater

    Smithfield, NC – The Central Johnston County wastewater collection system experienced a sewage spill on February 15, 2014 near 2827 Buffalo Road, Smithfield. The spill was caused by a break in a pipeline. The spill was estimated at 7,500 gallons. The sewage entered an unnamed tributary to the Neuse River. The spill has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources.

    Smithfield, NC – The Central Johnston County wastewater collection system experienced a sewage spill on February 17, 2014 near 2853 Buffalo Road, Smithfield. The spill was caused by a break in a pipeline. The spill was estimated at 7,500 gallons, of which, 3,500 gallons was recovered and disposed in the County wastewater system. The remaining 4,000 gallons entered an unnamed tributary to the Neuse River. The spill has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources.
