I saw a bit of a report on Michael Richards (used to be Kramer on Seinfeld). He's in deep doo-doo because he ranted on with a bunch of racial jokes while performing for a room full of members of racial minorities. Apparently, he did this in response to heckling.

I didn't hear any of what he said, and I'm not defending him (don't have enough info). But this started me thinking about something I've wondered about for a long time. I occasionally watch commedians on TV, and I have seen many African American commedians do entire routines ragging on nerdy white men. That's ok. Nobody minds. It's funny stuff. However, if a white commedian uses a racial or ethnic joke, unless it's about Muslims, Al Quada, or the Talliban, there will be h*** to pay.

It seems to me that the only groups you can safely joke about these days are:
    1. Your spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, partner, significant other
    2. Terrorists
    3. White men

Other than taking offense at being lumped in with those other 2 groups  , I don't really have a problem with this. (I'm in group #3, for those of you who are keeping score at home.) I just can't figure out who decided it should be this way, and why.

    Anybody out there know? :?

OK, I just read the ABC report on Richards. I had no idea it was that bad. The first report I saw on TV said nothing about him using the N-word, let alone repeatedly. That's just totally unacceptable behavior, I don't care who ticks you off or how.

So, nobody wants to touch this topic? OK, I guess I'll just keep wondering.
