    Just curious......

How old were you when you started shaving your legs with a real razor (as opposed to a product like Neet, or an electric razor)?

Yeah...I can't remember how old I was, but MM has been using Veet and one of those plastic razor thingies for about 2 years now. She's begging for a real razor. I guess I was just trying to gauge whther it was appropriate to let her try. I can just see her coming out of the bathroom with blood dripping down her leg.

well sit her down and show her how to do it. That's what my mama did. She would only let me shave up to my knees when I was 11. And after I had practiced plenty and gone through about a roll of TP (daddy taught me that part - the little bitty piece of TP over a knick and wet to remove gently) she said I could shave on up. She then said I am on my own past my knees.

I bought my daughter an electric razor (not a cheap thing, but not overly expensive either when she was 10 and she's used it ever since. She really needed it when she was in the 5th grade, but I didn't want her shaving with a "real" razor...hence the electric. She got a new electric one for Christmas this year (she's almost 13 now and in the 7th grade) that she can even use in the bathtub. She loves it. Don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard that if a girl never shaves with a regular razor and only uses an electric, the hair never comes back in as thick and "stubbly" I know she doesn't seem to have to shave nearly as often as I do. I, too, learned the old fashioned way and wore my share of little toilet paper bandages. Thankfully, that doesn't happen often any more. So I guess it's just a matter of preference.

I was about 12 and was at summer camp for 2 weeks and some girls were picking on me about how my legs were so hairy ( I am italian and my dark hair stood out). So I asked my counslor at the time if I could shave my legs, She said that I had to write to my parents and ask for permission first. My god, I had to wait atleast another few days for a reply. My mom said it was okay.

My counslor gave me a razor and a can of shaving cream. She showed me how to do it. And ever since I started, I have to shave like every other day, no joke. Stinks.

I don't have to worry about it for another 8 years before my daughter ask me.

    :)

I was probably 10 or 11. Someone made a comment about my legs so I use to sneak and use my dad's razor. Bad part was, he was blaming my mom for his razor being dull. I finally got caught but by then it was too late. My daughter started about 5th grade I think. She had a lot of hari on her legs and it was real noticable. I also started her out with an electric razor and she used it for a while and then informed me that the other girls used regular shavers and that electric wasn't good and now she uses a regular razor and wishes she never started with the regular razor. She complains about shaving, her monthly, her bust, etc. Told her welcome to the world of womanhood and that it didn't get better either!

11 or 12 sounds about right. I asked and my mom said "no", but I was getting picked on in school so I snuck in her bathroom and shaved. Well, sorta shaved. I cut the heck out of my leg, and finally when my mom realized it she taught me the proper way so I wouldn't hurt myself any more :)
