Gas Chamber aside, we have to find more rescue groups around here to help get some of these dogs and cats out of the shelter! Any suggestions?

Alright, I posted this for the furballs in a not-so-nice manner, but even after all the publicity (bad or good) that the JoCo Shelter is getting, there is still an abundance of dogs. For those involved, wouldn't the focus be better served on spaying and neutering rather than euthanasia. It's pretty obvious that there are too many dogs and no one is ever going to be happy with ANY form of euthanasia. Just a thought.

Also, it's only my opinion, but recruiting more rescue groups would probably be one of the hardest sales pitches in the world. Finding people that want a 4th dog or even a first dog will probably be a tough sell. I think the focus should be on stopping the procreation, not forcing the abundant supply on the general population. Again, just a thought.

Oh, Chuck I completely agree! I think every pet needs to be fixed. I am saying right now, in the moment, I need more rescue groups until the problem is under control, which it probably never will be so why waste my breath? Anyway... have a great rainy day! :(

I think anyone who doesn't spay or neuter their pet is an idiot. It is a simple fact the animal population is out of control. I've seen that mobile spay and neuter van drive throught johnston County but I've never seen it parked or advertised. I may have just missed it but I would like to see thier schedual more readily available.

Flyers for Carolina Mobile S/N and for NC-SNAP are sitting on the counter at the JCAC. And also at the area PetsMarts. And JCAPL tells people about these organizations. While the mobile units are on the Web, I would guess that they don't advertise because they are so low-cost and have little money to work with.

On the topic of foster - I have been a foster home for a couple years. It is rewarding (otherwise I wouldn't do it). But it can become expensive and is emotionally VERY hard. I deal almost constantly with behavior problems and health problems. And I come to love my fosters, so adopting them out is a heartfelt loss for me. And recently, I had to euthanize a very sick animal - I mourn for him and I'm backing off on my fostering for a while to recoup.

OK, consider this. Animal Lover just proved my point. There are very few people who can rescue and want to rescue because of various reasons. Cost being one of those reasons. So, imagine that's it's November of 2004 and Niko has just been euthanized accidentally. Rather than take on this campaign to change the method of euthanasia, why not start a message of spay and neutering. It may not have happened automatically as few things do when dealing with something of this magnitude, but eventually we would see the numbers dwindle in the shelter. I don't know all the in's and out's of spaying and neutering, but it's pretty obvious that Bob Barker isn't getting the job done. In my opinion, this needs to be the message that is preached in accordance with, and perhaps exceeding that of the gas chamber.

Besides, everyone is SICK of hearing about the gas chamber. Perhaps a new message would rekindle some kind of support.

I have asked repeatedly. I rescued from there for years, and in recent months I have not been allowed to. You have heard this before. Do not repond with your snotty comments.

the only problem with rescuing dogs from the shelter is the shortage of foster homes for dogs already within rescue organizations.

so many people say they want to help yet do not know how. fostering the animals is the best way to help, if you really want to.

it is not all that hard and it is rewarding beyond mention. the organization you choose to work with will set you up with food and medical attention. all you have to do is love the dog until its forever family is found!

just throwing it out there as these posts just seem to go 'round and 'round...

We have room, and are still not allowed to get them out anymore.

I just gotta ask. What are their reasons for denying you an adoption or rescue from the shelter? I realize the answer may be painfully obvious, but I just have to hear it from you.

    Did my ******* post read:
"Michele King, with the NCAA, can you rescue from the shelter?" NO IT DIDN'T.
Me, reply with a snotty comment? My post was not directed at you Michele. Don't take everything so personal. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU! I am looking for more orginations to do rescue. If they won't let you rescue, that's not my problem! You can take that up with Ernie, Rick, Roger, the whole damn county if you want to. You can take your snide ******* remarks, stick them up your ass and spin on them. That wasn't snotty was it?

BTW, Mail Call is closing their doors, you might want to get your petition out of there, unless they already trashed it.
