My son did a load of wash and must have left a pen in a pocket. He transferred it to the dryer, when the load was done out came his quite expensive A&F button down dress shirt, with a huge ink stain on the pocket and several spots down the front of his shirt! I tried rewashing in hot water with stain remover, no luck. (shout) then tried a hairspray tip I had once heard, no luck. Any advice?

You may be out of luck since you dried it, but I've had some luck with plain 'ol rubbing alcohol. Depends on the ink though. Good luck!

Oxi-clean? Haven't tried it on ink but it works great on other horrible stuff, like red wine and tomato sauce.

I believe your going to have to toss the shirt. Most of the remedies work with freshly made stains or those that haven't gone through the dryer. Since this has gone through the dryer the stain is set in and chances of getting it out are slim to none.
    Sorry.

Chalk it up to a valuable laundry lesson for your son... always check pockets before doing wash!

Dry cleaning? Call and ask them if they know anything about it.

I have had good luck with using Hair Spray but you have to Drown the ink spots. You have to Blot out the stain w/ a dry clean cotton cloth. You really are trying to transfer the stain to the clean cloth from the shirt using the hair spray as a liquid.

My MIL uses old fashioned Lighter Fluid, which I think is very much like white gas or what the dry cleaners used way back when.

    Good Luck.

Just thought I'd let you know that I got the stain out! Three washes later. Alcohol took alot out. So did saturating the spots with hairspray. After each step I immediately washed the shirt in hot water . Not sure if it was the combo or what, but the shirt is as good as new.
THANK YOU so much for the advice.
