Anyone know of any organization that helps people pay their light bill? I know a young lady that is pregnant and really struggeling. Any advise??? Thank you!
Try some local churches, I know some have programs to help in an emergency. I think Basic Needs in Clayton may as well, but don't quote me on it.

From the Johnston County website: Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) CIP is a program that provides emergency assistance to households that apply and are in heating or cooling related crisis. The following applies: The household must have at least one U.S. Citizen or eligible alien and have a monthly income at or below 115% of the current poverty level. CIP provides for a maximum benefit of $300.00 per household during the state fiscal year (July-June). (exception: If the federal government appropriates funds for the summer based on excess heat, the client can get an additional $300.00). Funds can pay for fuel as well as electricity. Emergency Assistance (EA) Citizenship Eligibility: To be eligible for AFDC-EA, an applicant must be an U.S. citizen or an eligible alien. An alien is ineligible if he or she is: Illegal An alien is ineligible for a period of 5 years from the date he or she becomes a lawful temporary resident unless he or she: Receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Is a legal Cuban or Haitian entrant. To Determine Emergency Eligibility Apply prudent judgment to evaluate each emergency situation on its own merits. Prudent judgment allows you to consider whether the client created the emergency and whether the assistance will alleviate it. However, we always consider whether the children will be at risk. Assistance is limited to $400.00 per year and can only be used in a 30-day period. The income is based on 150% of the poverty level General Assistance (GA) General Assistance (GA) is a program that provides funds to individuals for prescription medicines. The following conditions apply: Individuals must be evaluated for Medicaid and found not to be eligible prior to authorization of GA funds. The reason for the medication must be life threatening in order to be eligible under this program. There is a six (6) prescription limit per family per year. Carolina Power and Light (CP&L) CPL - Project Share is a program that provides emergency assistance to a household for heating or cooling related crisis. The funds come from CPL customers, employees, and corporate donations. The following applies: Only persons who get their power bill from CP&L can receive these funds and the funds cannot be used for deposit. Recipients must have income at or below 150% of the current poverty level. The maximum amount per year is $600.00; however, a recipient can only receive up to $300.00 for each crisis. The heating season is November through May. The cooling season is June through October. (A household can only receive a fan/air conditioner if they have any funds left in the total $600 per year during this time period. Low Income Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) The Low Income Energy Assistance program gives families a one-time cash payment to help pay their heating bills. Families must meet all of the following: Household must meet an income test. Household must be responsible for its heating bills. Household cannot have assets over $2,200. The household must include an U.S. citizen or and eligible alien. Where to Apply: Contact your local county department of social services where you live to find out where to apply. An elderly or disabled person who wishes to apply may call the county department of social services for assistance or send a representative to the county department of social services to apply for him. Please take the following information to apply: Information about your household's income. If anyone works, take wage stubs for the month of October. Information about your household's savings account or checking accounts. Information about your household's property, stocks, bonds, and other assets. Name, date of birth, and social security numbers of each household member. When to Apply: Application will be taken the first two weeks of November. The Low Income Energy Assistance Program is NOT a first-come, first-served program. In early February, all ELIGIBLE households receive a check in the mail.

I am suprised that Clayton Area Ministries didnt try and help her because I just heard an ad on WTSB yesterday afternoon for that service!
