With all the road construction at Main Street and U.S. 70 I had to sit in traffic at lunch in front of the shopping strip on E. Main Street in Clayton. Andy's use to be in this strip mall. It's one block behind Smithfield Barbecue. All the stores are now Spanish oriented. They even have graphics on the store front signs to help us Americans identify the type store. One has a meat knife heading toward a whole ham or side of beef. Another appears to be house rooftop. Another looks like tortillas. I assume the last one may be a restaurant. Anyone know if this is a Mexican restaurant and if so, have you tried the food?
Never quite understood why Andy's located there to begin with, because many of those stores were already there. However, it seems Andy's at their new location is never really that busy either. Its a shame, too. They've got great food and IMO, they tie for the best fast-food burger with Steak and Shake. Andy's Bacon Cheeseburger + onion rings + orangeade = YUMMY!!
Maybe that's why that particular place doesn't seem to do good business. Most other Andy's locations do brisk business and for good reason...'cause its good. Honestly, I haven't ate from the Clayton (US 70) location so I can't say. I do know that the 4042 location does a good business and the ones down east.
The only thing I've ever tried there was whats in their name.. CheeseSteak...and cheesesteak itself was mediocre and it was just a little sandwich for $6.. I only ever ate at the one in Smithfield on Brightleaf Blvd when it first opened and I was so unimpressed, never felt the need to try another once since they're franchised and all run the same. I'd rather get a steak & cheese from Jersey Mikes or Quiznos. If they can't provide a kick(beep) sandwich for a product they claim in their name and a nationwide franchise none-the-less.. then maybe they should just be Andys Hotdogs.
Their cheesesteaks are alright, but they are Andy's Cheesesteaks and Cheeseburgers and I prefer their burgers. Very good flavor to me, however to each his own. I don't eat their regularly, but when I do, I usually get good food. The only problem I have with them are their beverages. They don't offer free refills so that's a bit of a bummer. However, like I said, when I go, I go for the burger. Also, Andy's is growing...but far from a nationwide chain. To my knowledge of the company, they expand no further than west of Raleigh area, northward toward Rocky Mount and Roanoke Rapids, south to Shallote and eastward toward the coast. Frankly, there are several places that have the nostalgic thing going like the Grill '57 in Garner which went rapidly downhill several years ago and the Rockin' Comet in Clayton. My wife and I tried the Rockin' Comet burgers one time and was left disappointed with the price and flavor...but that was one time. I will say this...there is no better burger for the money than Steak & Shake. Little more pricey than Wendys or McDonalds, but worth every penny. Its a shame there's only one in Raleigh. Hope they expand.
Andy's does offer free beverage refills! "The only problem I have with them are their beverages. They don't offer free refills so that's a bit of a bummer." They do offer free refills for regular drinks. Just no refills on their lemonade and orange drinks that they make fresh after you place the order. I can understand this policy. We don't go very often but we find Andy's cheeseburgers to be very good and their service has always been excellent in their Clayton, 4042, and Smithfield locations. Their cheesestakes are a very poor substitute for the real deal Philly Cheese Steaks. In fact, we have not found any restaurant in this area that can make a good Philly Cheese Steak.
OOoooo...got me ta thinkin' now... going all the way to Raleigh for a burger... We haven't been to Fat Daddy's in a while... mmmmmmm DH is off again today and look at that! We have no plans! .... Think I'll go rescue sleeping beauty now... Andy's ... yuck. I like my hot dogs red - not my burgers. OH!! I lost my McKinley's virginity yesterday!!!!! It was gooood!
so....back to the original question.... Is that an actual Mexican restaurant there? Is it any good? Looking for a new one myself... Frogger
FYI Speaking of Andy's Saw Andy's at 40/42 posted an 88.5 "B" sanitation rating on 1-24-07 http://www.wral.com/5onyourside/restaurants/page/1001540/?c=051&l=A&z=27529&id=010858&v=0
I'd rather have a BK triple stacker than anything from ANDY"S, overated place I've ever seen. Its to "old-fashioned" hamburgers what CRACKER BARREL is to country-cooking: great if you've never had the real thing. For a great hamburger everytime, go to CHAR-GRILL on Hillsborough St in Raleigh.
I think it is.. and I might be wrong, but I think QuincyBoy or someone else from here has referenced that place in the past for a great burrito-to-go. I want to think its the place that used to be on Main St., next to the Mexican Store (next to what used to be The Pantry)... I think they moved. I could be wrong, someone please correct me if I am.
Both of my kids got sick once after eating at Andy's (the one by Walmart). They won't go to any Andy's now. Don't know if the illness had anything to do with Andy's food, but it doesn't matter to them. I do like their lemonade and chili cheese fries. Gues I'll just have to do without. Snuff
THE best burger for the money, HANDS DOWN !!!??? Double Cheesebuger from Dairy Queen When on special for $.99 !!! (NOW!) They're good all the time, but probably not worth full price. When they are on special, me and the mutt eat lunch and dessert for a little over $3.00 (2 double burgers and a small dip cone) ON SALE NOW at your local (40/42) DQ!!!
