I barely saw a hand written sign on the corner in front of McDonalds and another sign in front of the gas station diagonal across the street advertising live steamed crabs.

Each sign pointed in the opposite direction taking what I would consider the back way to Cleveland Rd.

    Does anyone know if:

    1) there a place opening or is it a vendor with a truck?
    2) they selling live crabs, steamed crabs (not boiled) or both?

    Thanks for your help!

I do believe that once they're steamed, they are no longer alive. :jester:

I agree, but the sign had both words on it.

They could sell live crabs and sell steamed crabs. Most places only do one or the other.

Like selling fresh fish and selling fried fish. Some places do both.

Isn't there a seafood place over in one of those little strip shops?

I agree, steamed crabs generally don't survive.

There used to be a seafood market but unfortunately it closed over year ago.

With the fancy sign (I saw it, too), I would guess it's a vendor. I like blue crabs also, but they sure are messy, and a lot of work, too! :)

So .... was the sign there last year or is this someone selling recently?

Blue crabs are a lot of work but man are they good!

We used to go "crabbing" on 64th. Street in Virginia Beach, tied a chicken neck on a cord, waded out in the water and threw it out in the water, after a while pulled in back in again, usually with a crab hanging on the chicken neck. These days I prefer alaskan king crabs ;)

Down East NC crabbin' off the dock.

    String
    Chicken Neck
    Cold Beer
    dip net
    bucket

tie necks to string of sufficient length to reach the bottom and have some slack left over.

attach sting to dock and throw neck in water

    drink beer

when string begins to move (crab has it and trying to walk away with it), slowly bring string in.

Before crab break water, place dip net underneath.

    Place crab in bucket, repeat.

My childhood - my aunt lived down Front Street in Beaufort and we'd throw lines off of her pier going out across the street. Well - before they improved everything and the water got icky.

I do not remember seeing the signs last year. I just happened to notice them about a week ago.

Now yesterday morning I saw a printed sign (yellow with black letters) in front of the same gas station that said 'live & steamed crabs'.

I'll take a drive down there sometime this week and see if I can find them.

I saw both printed and hand written signs in front of the citgo and the mcdonald's, on 42. Never saw any crabs though....

I thought it was a white panel truck in the parking lot at the Citgo???? I'm pretty sure I saw it there one day a couple of weeks ago; I was out of town most of last week, and it was before I left.
