Your best bet would be to call around to the feed stores from here to southern pines, and see if anyone has a truck coming from up north, with availability to split cost.
Are you people kidding around? You can't or don't know how to find hay? Hell just go to craigs list to the farm and garden thread, put hay in the search box, there's more hay than you can shake a stick at:mrgreen:
When we had horses years ago, (and I understand it was before the drought) I paid $2.25 for a large square bale. Now they want $10! I think once the first cut of the year happens the prices will drop, but until then I need a local supplier. Most on Craigslist are pretty far away. I found a local Benson man but again $10 a bale. A few feed stores are up to $14, yikes. I would like to find a local person that I can continue to do business with at each cut to keep my barn full.

Either way. I am letting someone keep their horses here and they have been without hay for almost a week. They keep promising to bring hay and dont. In the meantime they are eating the bark off the trees... I need to get them something to eat. Animal control says they are not 'starving' enough, I am having them 'evicted' but that wont help them get food.
