Hello all, I am a new member and had posted this question in another thread but I think it got buried. We are hoping to close on a house soon in the Dixon Road distict. I have not been able to find out much about it as it seems to be a fairly new school. Could somebody share their experience with the school regarding the quality of education, the before/after care programs and extracurricular activities. We may be closing at the end of April or sooner and am wondering how it would be to enroll our 7 yo daughter so close to the end of the school year. We are currently paying for a private school in Fayetteville where I will continue to work. If any one has any advice about summer programs, I would also be very interested. Your replies would be most appreciated. Thanks, Mary Beth
go to the school & ask for a tour & ask for all the information about it it is public I think what the school is in its second year. It was built to take overcrowding away from McGees where alot of teachers left from. Just like anything go to the source. SUmmer programs YMCA by far the best & it is offered still at McGees Just call YMCA they are located off of 42 hwy still I think in Clayton Good Luck to you & welcome to the area

This is my 2nd year with my boys at Dixon. Great Principle and Great Asst. Principle. I have been extremely lucky in the teacher department too. Sad to say but the extra curricular stuff is about over for the year (my kids are in Math club and music production). I have no complaints.
Thanks for your replies. KellBell thanks for sharing your personal experience, just what I was looking for. I am glad to know that there are some extracurricular activities. I have already checked out the websites. I did not know about the Y so that sounds like a good resource for the summer. We are hoping that everything works out and we can settled by the end of April. Looking forward to becoming a regular member of this board. Mary Beth
I forgot to mention the before and afterschool care. They have both and I have used only the BSC, and they went to the YMCA after school and were bused to a different site. I didn't utilize the after school care provided by Dixon because they aren't available when there are Teacher work days, or Holidays, and the YMCA is. I love the Johnston County YMCA, after school program and summer day camp programs too.
Both of my grandbabies are there and i have been there many times with them, i am so impressed by the staff and the principal and believe my grandkids are in a great place and trust me, if you knew me you would know that if they were not, my old butt would be up there setting things right:hurray:
Welcome to the area. I have my boy in that school and he loves it. The teachers are very nice, great admin staff, and he is also in the before nad after school program. I really like the fact that all the staff throughout the school really pay attention to the child's needs, and we have even run into them at Walmart and they stop to say hello. My child has ADHD so he can be a handful sometimes, but they do everything they can to help him, and me. I would recommend Dixon Rd to anyone. Good Luck, I hope you find what you are looking for.
My husband is the music teacher there and he loves working there. Both of my boys go there as well and love it - we even are attending out of district which we can do since my husband teaches there, but if we were not happy there, we could choose to go back to the school where we are assigned based on our residence. The teachers that they have had have been wonderful. They are in the afterschool program because of my husband's meetings and bus duty and have had no problems there either. I have been there many times to eat lunch with the boys and to volunteer as well. I hope that you have as a positive of an experience as we have had so far. Karen
What great replies! I am very appreciative and look forward to enrolling our daughter soon. I am going to follow up with the Y, it sounds like a good program. I was a y-girl when I was a kid. The Y here in Fayetteville is not so good so I didn't even realize that it could be an option. Thanks again for responding to my post.
well i guess i will see ya there, my grandaughter is in it too, got to see part of her routine last night when she spent the night here
My hubby has been wanting to move to the Dixon Rd district because we're looking for land, and there seems to be a lot for sale there. I wasn't too sure of the school though, we're in West View right now and love it. And I'm not excited about leaving one really great school to find out that the one we go to now isn't such a great school. So I really appreciate all this information, seems like it's really not that bad.
We love Dixon Rd too. My son is in 1st grade there and this is our first year. I was skeptical because I homeschooled last year and planned to continue to homeschool but we had a rough start and enrolled him at Dixon. The teachers I have met are great and the admin staff is too. I have to say that the ratios are higher than that report card says, all the 1st grade classes have 20 kids and some higher grades have more than that. I am sure that number was low because last year was its first year. I would probably not switch until next year if I were you as there will really only be 1 month of school left when you move. The PTA is new at Dixon and really needs more parental involvement in my opinion. The same is true for my son's class. I am up there a lot so I think I have a good idea about what goes on.
The PTA is new at Dixon and really needs more parental involvement in my opinion. I agree. I volunteer like crazy with and for the PTA events, and there is never enough help or 'direction' if you will. was last year, but not this year.
