Hello I'm looking for large fields grass/hay, dirt that i could use to train my dogs to track human scent. would prefer clayton, Garner, Benson, Raleigh area. I will make sure the place is kept as found and will leave nothing behind. any help in locating a place would be much appreciated.
I've seen people training hunting dogs near the Buckhorn Reservoir off of Crockers Nub Road. If you need a body to practice with we can arrange something with NY9.
We started Jenna's tracking at Horse Shoe Farm park in northern raleigh near wake forest. http://www.horseshoefarm.org/ We have also used the fields and woods around Bentonville Battleground (near Newton Grove) for training as well as Howell Woods near Smithfield. Generally speaking, at Howell Woods, my targets don't get too far off trail (or the challenge will be for them to go down on a side trail a little ways) and we are working more on ground scent in those areas. My daughter's service dog is continually being trained in SAR in case she ever wanders off from home. The dog can track her immediately when she wanders off (she's 7 and is severely autistic and mentally retarded).
