I saw the thread on fruit flies, and wondered if there were any home remedies for getting rid of flies. I know it's summer so flies are going to be around. We've washed out our trash can, but I was wondering if there was something similar to what we got at Lowes...it is something we hung on our back porch that attracts the flies into a bag of water and they can't get out I was wondering if there was anything I can use as a home remedy. Thx.
As you walk in all Wal-Marts you go under a heavy wind blower. This keeps flies out of Wal-Mart. Many years ago small businesses in downtown Clayton left their front doos open but had large fans blowing out the front door. However they also had these sticky fly strips hanging from the ceilings inside to catch the flies that were brave enough to come through the wind from the fans. Maybe you can duplicate this in your house.
Zip lock bags filled with water and hung from near the doorways will keep the majority of flies out of the home. It sounds crazy, but its something that has been found to work. It has something to do with the flies' visual optics and their complex eyes being confused by the bending of light from the bag of water. I've even seen it before in some stores.
Thanks, I'll try those suggestions. I've done the done the fly swatter thing, but I hate breaking a sweat!
Blessed, with kids going in & out, in & out around here every summer, I feel your pain. Sometimes it seems as though we're breeding the darn buggers! :x (Flies, not kids, that is! :lol
I know it does sound crazy but it does work! My grandmamma's sister use to do this trick every summer and it worked!
I've learned 2 things here today! I was just this weekend wondering why stores hit you in the face with that blast of air at the front door. Now I know! As for the bag of water thing, I was at Porter's Produce Stand last night and noticed that they had ziplock bags of water hanging around. I was thinking it was probably something for fruit flies. I'm definitely gonna try this one!
