One good turn deserves another. Kaci just saved me a ton of money on topsoil so I thought I would pass this little tidbit on to others. I just finished building a pool surround deck and an additional 18x28 deck so you can imagine how much treated lumber I used!! I shopped around and found Keener Lumber in Smithfield. I saved over $4 a board on each 2x6x10 from what it would have cost me at Lowes or HD. To make it even better, they provided FREE delivery to me in Garner. Can't beat that in my opinion. Just thought I would share with the board. Thanks.
That's one thing about the people on here - they are good people and will help you anyway they can. When's the 4042 pool party?
Thanks for the heads up about the lumber. Going to do a deck out back. Need to save some coin. thanks again.
Was it an aboveground pool? Did you design yourself - would love to hear your ideas and how you did it - we need to do the same thing, extend our deck and build around the pool. Thanks for the tip on the wood:hurray:
Another great place for lumber - Discount Lumber in Wendell. Guy who just extended deck around above ground pool told us about the place in Wendell. Great prices. Ro
It's a 24' above ground pool that I did a modified Splash Deluxe Deck with from this website Deck Plans. I bought the deck blocks from Lowes and actually got Johnston County to buy off on the plans and issue a permit for it. Here's a link to my project pictures Deck And Pool Project Took me three months start to finish. This was only one old person doing it on his own. Somebody with a bunch of friends could probably knock this out over a weekend. The deck still needs to be stained but I think that will be another winter project. All I want to do now is enjoy it.
Nice! Is that you relaxing in the last pic after a job well done? Did your Wedding Cake steps come with you pool, or did you purchase them locally/online? I want to get some this summer, just don't want to spend an arm and a leg.
Cleo, get them online - they are way cheaper. If you need a couple of websites i will be glad to get them for ya this evening and send your way. i love mine, so much better than the ladder.
Cool, thanks so much for sharing - gonna have my DH take a look this evening. You did an awesome job:hurray:
If you need any 4x4's or 2x4's I have some in my garage that you can take for free!!!! Nothing is wrong with them....I just don't have a reason to keep them anymore (had them at my old house around the pool). Let me know if you want them and I'll get you some directions.
Great job!!! Well done, thanks for the tip!!! We just did it a do it yourselfer job as well, put a 1000 sq. ft addition on our house so I know your anxiousness to just enjoy it!!!!! Now its time to rebuild the decks....oye, ya yoie!!! Will it ever be done? Will keep your recommendation in mind!!!
Thanks everybody for the kind comments. Yup, that's me on the deck thinking to myself "self, if you ever get a hairbrained idea like this again, just shoot yourself". This project just seemed to have a life of it's own and grew and grew. Glad it's done and looking forward to a great summer. On another note, can somebody give me a good recommendation on someone to pressure wash my house? I've left messages for both Tim and Ed who I saw were recommended in another thread but neither one of them has bothered to call me back. Kind of frustrating. Thanks. Almost forgot. Cleopatra I bought the steps as an upgrade from Clearwater when I purchased the pool. If I hadn't got an upgrade price I would have purchased online myself.
I am pretty sure that Keener Lumber is run by one of the JoCo Commissioners. If so, I will not be patronizing them.
