The kids drug home a stray male kitten a couple weeks ago. It's in good health etc, but I've got a male cat and he doesn't like the idea of a new male in the house. Looking for a good home, it uses the litter box, but I didn't sign up to take of the kitten (but I am), and the existing cat needs to come back inside which he wont until the little fella is gone. Darker in color, lighter stripes, white feet.
my old cat did that when we had gotten sunny, when she was a pup, years ago. cats can be stubborn, have you found a home yet?
Not yet. I'm reluctant to resort to a trip to the pound so I'm holding out for options. But honestly, I'm running out of time. The big cat still comes home but he's spending more and more time off while the little critter is here, and he just refuses to come inside on his own or stay inside if carried in... We've had other kittens, all female, w/no issues (can't say stray dogs have not been a problem twice) but the big cat didn't seem to mind them at all. But he's really upset about this male.
Just a thought, but if you get the male kitten neutered, it may diffuse the situation. The older male may not perceive it as "male" anymore.
When the kids asked to bring it home they were told no, I have no desire to keep it beyond the time it has been here, nor do I care to spend any more money on vet bills more than I already do. The kitten will need a full set of shots and neutered, with one kid in band and another in college I really can't afford it. I thought I would just give it a chance for a new home here before I looked for other options. It has worn out its welcome tbh.
