Mathcounts Winners Announced

    SMITHFIELD-- Johnston County Schools held its annual Mathcounts
    competition today, February 3. A total of 98 students from 11 middle
    schools participated in this highly competitive and rigorous mathematics
    competition. Students competed in a sprint round, target round, and
    team round. The 25 students with the highest scores then moved to a
    countdown round.

    Overall Individual Mathcounts Winners are as follows:

    1st place: Nick Perfetto, McGee's Middle School
    2nd Place: Amber Johnson, Riverwood Middle School
    3rd Place: Shyam Patel, Selma Middle School
    4th Place: Dakota Starr, Riverwood Middle School

    Countdown Endurance Winners:
    1st place: Mary Lassiter, Riverwood Middle School
    2nd place: Dakota Starr, Riverwood Middle School
    3rd place: Adam Peedin, Princeton Middle School

    Team Winners:
    1st Place: Riverwood Middle School (Team W)
    2nd Place: McGee's Middle School
    3rd Place: Princeton Middle School

    Overall Mathcounts Team Competition Winner:
    Riverwood Middle School

    Riverwood Middle School now moves on the regional competition to be
    held in Raleigh February 12.
