A dream was realized in western Johnston County back in May of 2006. A dream that now nurtures hundreds more dreams. Dreams of maybe one day becoming a big league ball player or playing for the US National Softball team, or maybe just of making the middle school soccer team.

Those dreams are being nurtured through the hard work of just a handful of the McGee’s Crossroads community. Enter the McGee’s Crossroads Athletic Association, otherwise known as the MCAA.

The MCAA was incorporated as a 501-c-3 only as recently as 2006 to provide recreational sports activities for local youth. It has quickly grown into a league boasting hundreds of participants and dozens of teams. Yet, sadly, even with the impressive expansion of the number of participants, the MCAA Board itself has not grown enough to support the effort. As the organization founder and President, I am calling for help from the community.

This organization belongs to the community of McGee’s Crossroads and to the children of McGee’s. As a fourteen year resident, I’ve seen how much pride exists here. This is a great place to live and to be a part of its growth. Everyone I know who lives here is proud to say, ‘I live in McGee’s Crossroads’. There’s a desire to be recognized as such and to provide quality recreational services to our kids and competition for our neighbors; to show what we have to offer.

The existing board is happy to provide administration to the kids and parents. But now the people of the community are being called to step up. The organization has doubled its baseball and basketball numbers in just one year and now we have lights going up on the ball fields to support even more growth.

There’s a lot of work to be done just to maintain what we have built. But the dreams and the vision of our youth still exist and push us forward. They call us to action, to provide more and better programs on improved facilities. We need your help. The kids need your help. We need committee members in every sports committee as well as concession and Fundraising/Grant writing.

If you would like to participate in what has been called the best kept secret in Johnston County and in what is sure to be an exciting future for the kids of the MCAA, please plan to attend our monthly meeting on the 15th of January. We meet as a board every third Tuesday of every month in the cafeteria of the McGee’s Middle School.
