Looking for any feedback on this disease. I have read a lot trying to educate myself and my husband goes to the carolina ear practice in raleigh. He is on lots of meds but today he is still flat of his back and cannot move because of the vertigo and nausea. does anyone know of a specialist at UNC or Duke that maybe we can get a second opion from? any info will be appeciated. The doctor has told him that as a last resort he would have to have his middle ear taken out but that is extreame. Thanks. Macy

Where we are hoping to go with Ménière’s research
Otolaryngology is a broad discipline and the AAO-HNS is an organization that represents all otolaryngologists. In terms of focusing research, however, we are open to focusing research efforts and dollars to specific conditions when it’s warranted. We contract with the Duke Clinical Research Institute to perform clinical trials on very specific topics. In a nutshell, we are happy to promote research in a specific target population as long as the guidelines are consistent with our organization’s mission and vision.

Dr. John McElveen 919-876-4327. (Otologist/Neurotologist) Specializes in hearing, balance, facial nerve and surgery. He's the physician I went to a few years ago when I had similar problems. He's excellent, formerly with Duke, really into research and new therapies and treatments.
Oh, I think the practice was called Carolina Ear and Hearing Clinic, located on Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.

As a person who went through Vertigo all last year and now still have it on ocassion, I can tell you that I had every test and drug known to man it felt like and nothing helped. Unfortunately it is one of thise things that you will keep hearing will "go away eventually" I did do one thing that helped some and that was Vestibular therapy at the Rex Hospital Balance Center. It is not a cure but made my life a little more tolerable.
