I posted this in the pet section but thought I'd post it here since it's more of a PEST problem than a PET thing..... We've been in this house nearly 12 years and this is the first time we've had a mouse problem. My cat is a real mouser and has caught, killed and eaten about 14 mice in the past 2 weeks. I've not put poisen out for fear she would eat a poisoned one and get sick too. Last week, I found a mouse that had something wrong with it. It could hardly move, very lethargic. Before I realized it was sick or something, I tried to get my cat to grab it before it got away. She would have NOTHING to do with it. I mean, this is the same cat that has been constantly stalking these mice nearly 24/7 and I've watched her pounce in a flash at the first sight of a mouse and kill it instantly. Could it be that cats can "sense" illness in their prey?? Anybody know more about this....or how to get rid of these stupid mice without poisoning my cat?? The darn things have licked the peanut butter of one off my traps at least 3 times now without snapping the trap :x
They have those sticky traps you can put out. We had a few mice in a prior house and that is what a pest contral person advised.
We had a mouse in the house we are living in and we do not have a cat. My wife went to Wal Mart and got a Tomcat snap trap and baited the trap with peanut butter. First night we set the trap next morning , dead mouse. Hope this helps!! Merry Christmas!! :hurray:
I would be afraid to use poison if there is any chance your cat could get to the mouse before you do. Beyond that, we once lived in an apartment with major mice trouble. Our landlord decided to use poison, and one apparently crawled into the vents and died. We lived in Iowa where the winters can be really cold and we barely ran the heat the whole season. Believe me, you do not want that to happen! We couldn't get it out, so suffered until... When I think about it, it still makes me want to :ack::ack::ack:!!
I agree I also would not want to put down any type of poison. The quantity of mice which you have described seems unusual. You may want to consider contacting a pest control company. You need to find out where this quantity of mice is coming from, how they are entering into the house and then do your best to make the void in the house repaired so mice will not be able to enter in the future.
I know what you mean, I have had that problem for the last 2 winters, but this year I have been ok so far. My mouse catcher died this month and my other cat isnt' intrested in them. Soooo...I'm hope I don't have to deal with it. I have used sticky traps and they work really well and I have two electric ones. Snaps them...works wonders. They are expensive, but worth it. Just got to keep the batteries changed well. I only have the problem in my bedroom, haven't seen any in the kitchen, but seen the signs of them (poop)..before my cat got killed she had killed two in the living room, never eats them, just kills them. I can't put stuff down either cause I have parrots and if one goes in the parrot cage with it on their feet and gets in their food, then my parrots would get sick and die. Sheri
