I'm looking for any feedback (based on experience) about the mobile spay/neuter service in this area. I love my vet but they would be extremely expensive to have my 1 1/2 yr old dog spayed. This mobile service looks good, and is considerably less expensive and the vet comes recommended by our dog groomer but I can't help but be nervous.
If you are talking about the one that comes to Garner or Smithfield for our area, i highly recommend them. Just had my new baby girl spayed with them about a month ago and they were wonderful and caring people. i could not have asked for anything more - my vet actually recommended them cause she knows, due to all the animals i have, expenses are tight. i was nervous at first too but i talked to so many people who had such great experiences with them, i decided to give it a try and i could not have been happier. Those folks truly love our 4legged families and were so reassuring and kind.
For cats, I have used SNAP-NC, Carolina Mobile S/N, and POP. (And the organization for which I foster, uses them for dogs too.) All three give excellent service and are inexpensive. And the price includes vaccinations. My favorite is POP because they give an injection of a long-lasting post-surgical pain killer, so no need to give kitties pain medication after surgery. The other two organizations charge for take-home pain medication, an extra $10, which I do buy and use. But then the cats do have pain. Some people don't buy the medication and I feel very sorry for their animals, as the post-surgical pain can be very severe, especially in females.
I used SNAP and was very pleased. They were kind, and it was an inexpensive alternative. (I believe I met the mobile unit in Smithfield at the animal shelter right off Brightleaf Blvd.)
my MIL has used the one that comes down to the Family Home & Garden center at Amelia Church Rd. & 70 and has been very pleased with the services they provide. Sorry I can't think of which one that is, but I think it's there once a month, I'm sure if you call Family HGC they could tell you the # so you could call to schedule an appt.
That one is Carolina Mobile Spay/Neuter, and I think they may be at FH&G more frequently than once a month. POP provides service at Carolina Pet Supply in Garner on McCormick off 70 - I think only once a month.
Good INfo - Thanks 40/42-ers! Now, I just need to trap a few of our Wild Wild Wild Feral Farm Cats.........
Thanks so much-I feel much better now! We actually had two kittens spayed a couple of years ago by SNAP and were very pleased. I have an appt. Monday morning with Carolina Mobile Spay Neuter at the Clayton Family Home and Garden Center and just had hoped for feedback about them. They actually called me and assured me they use the exact same techniques as any other vet. They also told me they do give a pre-op antibiotic injection as well as a long-acting pain injection after the surgery. They do offer additional pain meds for $15.00 which I will definately take advantage of. I love my vet but they are so much more expensive and with 2 dogs and 2 cats I am tight on what I can spend. Thanks again for the positive feedback-it's like picking out a pediatrician for a baby!
I'm just curious (as my name implies--LOL) How much does a mobile vet charge to have a female spayed? I have our baby girl scheduled for this next Tuesday at the vet's office. They will keep her over night and then I can pick her up on Wednesday after 11:30. We went by the vet's office Wednesday night and everything was locked up and lights out. I hate to think of my baby there all alone all night after this operation. I think the charge is $140.00 and that's with a $25 discount. But am going to have her micro-chipped at the same time so that's another $30 or $35 (not sure exactly). I'm just curious how everyone who has used a mobile vet to spay has handled their animals at home afterwards. I'm actually going to call today and change her appointment till the next Tuesday (the 29th) because we'll be going to the beach next Friday-the 25th and will stay till Monday because the kids are outta' school for Memorial Day. So I don't think I want to take my baby and her sister to the beach 3 days after she's been operated on. Any info any of you can give me or suggestions for post-op care will be greatly appreciated. Thank goodness my other baby girl was already "fixed" when we adopted her! I've never had to nurse one after surgery and want to be sure I'm doing what's best for baby girl. Thanks all---and sorry for the long post!
Charges differ for dogs and cats. Extra charge for large dogs. Extra charge for females in heat or pregnant. Slight, but not much, charge differences between the different mobile vets. Check their web sites. You drop off ~ 8AM and pick up ~ 4-5 PM. You get a sheet of post-op instructions and an emergency call number (I've never had to call). Keep your animal confined alone in a temperature-controlled environment (bedroom, bathroom, crate). Leave them alone to sleep. Pain is the biggest problem in females, so use the provided pain medication. Males may spot a little blood, but they tend to bounce back to normal very fast. (But I give them pain med too.) Check incision for pus or cloudy drainage indicating infection, in which case call the emergency number (has never happened for me). Offer very small amount of food the first night (may not want to eat until the next day). And lots of fresh water to drink. Cats can use litter box if they wish. (Only 1/2" deep or less, so doesn't stick to incision.) It's a lot easier than it sounds.
I think my experience was great... took my kitty home that night and, as instructed, left the door to the crate open to let her come out at her pace. Of course, Cama jumped right out and curled up on the sofa. She was pretty doped up for that night, just staring at the walls and such. I was told to keep her inside for a few days and to discourage any climbing and jumping (so the incisions would be okay). I let her outside on day 6, I think, and she was great I'm sure your kitty will be fine
I actually have a 5 1/2 month old Cockapoo female puppy that will be spayed. Thanks for all the info.
i just did Gracie about a month ago (6mo old Jack Russell Terrier) and it cost $90 plus $25 for the microchip. i asked about the pain meds for the extra $10 and they told me with hyper dogs like Gracie, they actually had the opposite affect and would make her more hyper and more likely to pick at her stitches. i took my vet's advice (even though i didn't take her there for the spaying, Dr. Debbie was wonderful in giving me advice for after surgery) and bought the children's Benedryl to keep her calm and relaxed for a few days after surgery. It worked great, by Day 3, she was back to her old self and happy as can be.
My baby girl, Mandy, is being spayed and micro-chipped today. Please keep her in your thoughts! I know she'll be fine, but I'm a wreck! Won't pick her up from the vet until tomorrow! And, I think we got her there just in time. Think she's trying to come in heat because the neighbor's little male dog was "doggin" her behind something fierce yesterday when I took her for her nightly ride on the golf cart. (She and her sister get off and run rabbits in the big field behind our house). The poor thing couldn't even take a step without the little fellow's nose up her behind!
Curious I hope your baby is feeling ok. I wanted to let everyone know that Dr. Dawn Flood with Carolina Mobile Spay/Neuter was wonderful. My Chloe was spayed on Monday and is already almost back to normal. I brought her home the same day and she slept most of the evening due to the anesthesia. The second day she was more alert and moving more comfortably thanks to the pain meds I bought from Dr. Flood. Today is even better. I called Dr. Flood this morning to ask a question and she was so very nice and helpful. By Friday my Chloe should be back to her playful self. I would highly recommend this service as it was so much less expensive. I love our vet-don't get me wrong-but with 2 cats and another dog I couldn't afford what the vet was charging.
