More JCS Teachers Earn National Board Status

A reception to honor 26 Johnston County Schools teachers who have added their names to the distinct list of those who have earned the prestigious National Board Certification status will be held on Monday, March 15 at 4 p.m. at the Board of Education building in Smithfield. The total number of nationally certified teachers in Johnston County is now over the 100 mark.

National Board certification is a year-long process that requires the completion of assessment center exercises and a portfolio. The Johnston County Schools Human Resources Department provides support group and mentor opportunities for teachers who are preparing for the national boards. The state of North Carolina pays for the certification fee, and successful candidates in the Johnston County Schools earn a 12 percent pay increase.

"We are extremely proud of these teachers, " said Dr. Anthony Parker, Superintendent. "They are models of the perseverance, high standards, and commitment to public education that Johnston County Schools embraces. Congratulations to each and every one."
