mothballs

My roommates just moved out to their own home. For some reason they felt the need to use mothballs in the closet. I have repainted the room, cleaned the carpet and still cannot get rid of the smell in the closet. From what i have found the only way to get rid of the smell is direct sunlight...well I can't exactly take the closet outside...! Does anyone know a way to get rid of the smell?

 

What I want to know is how you know what a moth's balls smell like????

Seriously...how about placing an open box of baking soda or an open container of kitty litter in there?

 

We used these volcanic rock bags for a bathroom cabinet when we lived in DH's grandma's house for 8 weeks while we were between homes. It worked well and if it stops working, you put it in the sun and it recharges. I think we found the bags at Lowe's, but you can order them as well.

put an open bag of charcole in there, the smell will go away in a few days.
