I think HBO had this movie on recently and it reminded me of a scene that just bugs me.

I know there are whole websites on movie mistakes, but this one just caught my eye.

Why, when Andy was escaping and trying to bust through the cast iron sewer pipe, did the director make it seem that the sewer pipe was under so much pressure that it just exploded into a geyser all over Andy when he finally broke a hole in the pipe?

But, when Andy sticks his head down in the pipe, all you see is just a little old trickle of sewage on its way down the pipe.

That pipe was never under any pressure. How could it if the other end was open to the creek where Andy finally emerges?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqVX7ruPe2s - Take a look; it happens at about the 1:30 mark of this video.

But, you know, after a 12 hr shift, if that's all that's bugging me, I've had a pretty good day! :)

Kent, that made me laugh out loud! I'm always the one to notice little stuff like that in movies and I'll point it out to my DH and ask "why?" He just says, "because it's a movie." I know he is doing this  at me in his mind... but he knows better than to do it to my face. :p

Shawshank is one of my favorite movies.

It's one of my favorite movies, too.

By the way, your posts in The Upper Room are good. Keep it up.

There's a scene in that movie that disturbs me as well, and that is not the one.

    Appreciate that.

Yeah, it was such a good movie, why did they have to resort to a silly special effect like that. We've got sense enough to know what type of pipe he's crawling through. With Morgan Freeman telling us and Andy puking every few feet, that is a big hint, right!

I found Morgan Freeman's delivery of that voiceover, describing the ordeal as much more effective. In my mind, the visual actually supported the aural.
