Just curious to see how many people still go to Mule Days? I used to go when I was younger to cruise. Then I use to take MM to see the parade and do the carnival, and then it because more of a hassle to get there and find a parking spot. And there were always fights and such going on. Just curious as to if you go, and if so, for what?
I grew up going every year..but always seemed to be a bunch of drunk rednecks(yes I used to be one of them)...so I don't think it's worth the hassle to take the kids...
Last yr was our first time, and we only went to the parade, took MP Jr, she loved it. I think we got lucky as far as parking, kinda followed other's leads and landed the perfect spot for parking and watching the parade. Not sure about this year yet.
I used to go "back in the day". I mean, I went to South Johnston...you couldn't NOT go! I will be attending this year for the first time in MANY years because hubby's band is playing Friday night. 8)
When I had my horses (and was younger) I literally spent the whole long weekend there. (even camped out). My husband would bring the kids up to say hello every once in a while. But now that I am horseless, older, etc we go there to walk around a check out the booths. (not every year, but sometimes.)
Dont forget to stop by the Grove after the parade and buy some BBQ from South Johnston HS Marching Band!!
I take it you'll be coming from the 40/42 area so take I40 to the first Benson exit which will be Hwy 242 (to hwy 301). When you get off the exit take a right. Follow the signs to Hwy 301. Take 301 to W Brocklyn St. It's just past a car dealer ship on the lleft. Take that left, go over the RR tracks at the stop sign make a right onto Market St. Take your first left on E. Mann St. Go past the Army trucks on your right when you come to the T intersection make a right. I know there is a bunch of turns but once you get to the army trucks (you can't miss'em) anyone out there will point you in the right direction. Hope this helps
and you might as well park at the first open spot you see, cause parking is terrible, you'd have to get there about 6am to get a close spot!!! Parade starts at 10am. Here's a cute story about Mule Days this weekend. http://www.newsobserver.com/152/story/488721.html
After 20 continuous years of Mule Days ing it, I will be FAR away from it this year. This will be my first time in 20 years of not making an appearance. I, along with my family and a few friends, have opted for the beach this year. It's gonna be a nice weekend, lots of fishing and NO HORSE POOP!
I enjoy the banjo music. Then I mosey on over to the night festivities. 8) The band that was there last year was awesome!
If we go at all, it will prob be Saturday afternoon just to see the street vendors. But I'd be willing to say we prob won't make it, lol...
