    Any words of advice?

She's nervous about parallel parking. Does she have to do it for the test?

Please be nice and forget all the mean and stupid things I say, I'm traumatized by this....
It just scares the living daylights out of me. She's a good kid and I know she will follow the rules but I hate Johnston County roads.

You don't have to parallel park for the test... Honestly, my drivers test in clayton was so weak it was disturbing.

Leave the parking lot, take a left, make another left, cross 42 into the adjacent subdivision, drive a few hundred yards, make a 3 point turn in a drive way, then back up for 100ft.

I dunno if the lady was just in a real hurry, or if that's standard testing procedure in clayton, but it was laughable.

When I took her there last summer for her permit, the lady inside scolded me for bringing coffee inside and chased me out the door. It seemed like they were all sort of crabby.

hmmm.... I had a totally different experience at the one in Clayton off Hwy 42. Was in and out so quick I should not have taken the coffee in.

Mine was just like that in Va Bch nev, except it was right-hand turns. Even scarier! I basically made a circle and parked it.

That's the one we went to. Are you saying you were allowed to take coffee?

Yep and they were very pleasant to deal with.

In CA I only had to make a 3 point turn and drive around for what seemed like 3 minutes.

Can you tell that from my avatar? (Hint- that's not really me )

Come to think of it you may be correct, she was not white.

I wonder if they try to be intimidating in front of teenagers or something. She actually yelled across the room at me to get out with the coffee.

My daughter will get her after 9's Friday. Then she'll be footloose and fancy free. No more hurrying home to be there by 9:00.

We went to the one in Clayton and found them to be very nice when she got her permit.

Wow, you don't need to parallel park? That's awesome! I had to way back when (in NY). But only behind one car, there weren't two that you had to fit in between. Thank God because I was driving my grandmother's crown victoria, a fricking boat!!! (I hated parallel parking then and still hate it now, have probably done it 2X in my 16 years driving!)

Wow...my driving test was miserable, but i did get it the first try. I had to take it in Cambridge, MA....snowy morning, the day after Christmas. We were out in city traffic, over a big bridge, had to 3 pt turn and parallel park on a side street. I've never minded parallel parking, i'm pretty good at it.

Parallel parking: I don't mind it either cause we did it alot when I took drivers ed, at the time I hated it - but now I'm glad we did.

Hey 'dontcare'....just remind her to use her turn signals when turning. Seems the instructor commented to my dd when she didn't use hers when turning out of the dmv parking lot to start her test........which seemed ridiculous to me! Also to use the proper protocol when backing up (like out of the parking space), IE look over her shoulder, put hand on back of seat if needed....those sort of things. They might not be as picky anymore - but its better to be over cautious than not.

Also with you in the car - maybe have her practice running off the shoulder and getting back onto the road (start at a slow speed) we also did that in DE and whenever I run off the road, the first I think is 'ok, take your foot off the gas and gradually get back on the pavement'. Unfortunately that seems to account for a large number of wrecks around here.

    Good luck!

Not sure about the test, I had to parallel park back in the day  to pass my test. I'm a f'ing queen now!

She just needs to RELAX, be CALM and she'll do just fine.

<remind me to stay off the roads>

Good luck to your little girlie! :hurray:

have you every thought that maybe it would be a plus to know how to parallel park. and maybe to know how to change a tire etc.

Thank you. The part about running off the road is something that I have drilled in to her. It's hard to practice at speed but it's so easy to over correct. You are exactly right.

We practiced tonight. I think she's got it all down. I went over the basics like you mentioned. Even reminded her to use the emergency brake when she parks. I guess I'll leave the coffee home just in case the angry lady is working again.....Thanks everyone.
